Vtec Problem

I have a P28 ecu which is obviously an OBD-1, but the check engine light isn't flashing at all. It just pops on and stays on until I turn the car off and back on again. I'm going to try and figure it out tomorrow, but from your expirence do you know what codes to look for and what could possibly cause this. I'm kind of leaning toward a bad selenoid, because I re-wired it up today to make sure there was no loose wiring and it still doesn't work right. I know the pressure switch is new, I just bought it but other then no vtec the car runs great and I'm loving it. I just need to figure this damn thing out so run it at the track once before they close

the only cel I'm getting is after vtec tries to engage, but as far as the EGR goes we used the one off the accord, but if I have to switch it back I will. But would the EGR valve stop vtec from staying engaged?? We also dissconnected the fuel pressure regulator because I read something that said it wasn't nessecery to wire it in but I'm kind of thinking differently now.

Well wait a minute. I feel like a dumbass now. You said you are using the P28. The P28 doesn't control an EGR or FPR solonoid so that can't be the problem. Sorry I thought you where using the P13.
Anyhow I was thinking about why your block had the VTM removed like that. Some Vtec controllers like the Field's for example do not use the VTM sensor at all. They just send a signal to the ECU so the ECU thinks the VTM is connected. Maybe there is something wrong in your head that they decided to just connect an aftermarket Vtec controller and eliminate the VTM sensor so the problem would go away? I don't know but that's all that comes to mind.
Does your head seem clean? Remove the Vtec solonoid and check it's filters to make sure they are not clogged with debris. That could be the problem. Also inspect the oil passages.

Well, was it clogged up like I suspected? Or is the Vtec solonoid actually faulty?Originally posted by VtecFreak
I'm getting a code 21 ( vtec selenoid valve), so you think this could possibly be a clogged filter or a bad seleniod?? I"m going to clean out the filter in a few to make sure that isn't it.
