    Sensor question

What's the importance of the sensor on the water neck coming off of the head on the front (radiator side) of the engine? I know JDM motors don't have it... and usdm motors have it... hence why you have to switch the neck with the pre-drilled and tapped hole from your old motor...

Would the absence of this sensor using a USDM ECU and a JDM harness cause a CEL or any adverse effects?

If you are talking about the H22 swap into our 4th gen series, you don't use the JDM harness. You use your USDM F22 wiring harness. The H22 harness has no play in an engine swap so you should be fine with teh USDM ECU and the JDM engine since you are using the USDM harness.

      It's not an H22...

I knew someone would say something about the harness...

I just need to know if anyone has tried not using that sensor...

Well if you cut the sensor off, or not use it, I think you will get a CEL because it's just like when you're wiring up an H22 or whatever and don't have something connected correctly, it throwss a code at you.

I'm sure there's a way to go around it, but overall I think you will get teh CEL because it will detect the not used sensor.

Who's lifeatrip in your sig? Just curious.

nevermind... found the answer by searching...

Turns out it's NOT a neccesary sensor...

Just took a few tries to get the right combination of search words...

            So anyways...

It's an F20A CB3 harness... the only difference between that harness and the usdm LX harness is that one plug...well and the IAB wiring...

I think I had some loose connectors coupled with a bunk PT6...

Gonna try and stick with the JDM harness...and if any issues arise from the lack of that sensor.. I'm blaming fizzbob and bustedlx... since they were the ones who said it wasn't needed in an old thread...

i never swapped water necks, so i dont have that sensor connected. figured my ECU never needed it there in the first place (while the motor/ecu were in a lude) so i figured it wouldnt care if it wasnt hooked up now. never had any problems because of it.

The sensor in question is actually the "Underhood Temperature Sensor". It's what turns on your fans after you shut off the engine, if the engine is still too warm. It will not throw a code, but the fans will not come on under these circumstances.

But does the P13 even have this function? Since swapping my fans have never come on after turning off the engine. I have a USDM P13 to.

I'm pretty certian that it is a redondant sensor. For example the first coolant temp sensor is set for 180 degrees to turn the fans on but if it doesn't because of some failure this sensor is set for 200 and then the fan kicks on. Know what I mean?

In any event if you don't use it nothing is affected. I haven't been running mine since I dropped my H22 in.

Gotcha. I just find it odd the fans used to come on with the F22 but they don't with the H. Seems to me it should be the other way around.

                      Hell, what do I know

Interesting to see most of you got rid of yours. I kept mine and just switched necks w/ the f22.
