    H22 Questions/Concerns, Needed: Experienced Advice

I have a few questions regarding the topic of H22 engines:

    1) Why are all of you wanting to swap your f22/honda accord stock engines for the H22? Why don't you just by the prelude instead of taking the engine? (is it just b/c of body style, I expect everyone to have their own reason)

    2) What are the differences b/w the Japanese H22 and the American H22? (I saw the the other post "A Couple H22 questions..." but I just want to know the general diff.)Aren't they all engineered by the same guys and they are just manufactured in different countries? I'm confused.

    3) If I were to get an engine from the junk yard would I need an IMPACT WRENCH to loosen all of the bolts of the engine, exhaust manifold, and other connections? Or can they be taken apart w/ a wrench?

4)Finally what do the terms OBD1, P13 and P28 along w/ related terms mean?

    1. dont know about everyone else, but for me, its body style.

    2. i know the compression is different, i dont know what else is tho... but the japanese one produces 200hp and the american one puts out 190. why? dont know.

    3. havent tried, dont know lol

    4. obd stands for "on-board diagnostics" - theres sensors all over the engine that are read by the ECU - obd-1 would let u know something was wrong w/ the 'check engine' light - then it can give u a basic idea of what the problem is. around 96 cars started to use obd-2 which is more specific about problems and has an interface connection that lets u read tons of data about the engine. i wish i knew more about it so i could explain better. P13 and P28 are code numbers for the different comptuers (ECUs) that came in cars. a P13 is a stock computer that came in the 92-96 preludes (h22) - so thats usually what people get along with their h22 swap. a P28 is from... a civic? i dont know. but its a different program made to do different things, but if u plug it into an h22 it gives u better results, and they are better if you want to start hackign up ur ECU by chipping it and stuff.

hope i made sense cuz when it comes down to explaining, i realize i dont know what im talking about.

First off, I'd liek to say, good questions!
      1. I wanted mine bc it's different, I already ahd the accord, which is lighter than the prelude, so I went for it (it's a major sleeper, esp with a girl driving!!!)
      2. About 10-20 hp, and experience. Japan has been making these motors for alonger time, and a lot better at it too. It's proven that a JDM motor is better than a USDM. Just a fact.
      3. Depends on how fast you want things done, and how strong you are. I wouldn't be going full speed ever on a impact wrench , but its much faster, so that's what I would say. But hand tools work too.
      4. OBDI is the computer type for the Honda motors 96 and older, OBDII is 97 and newer. I would go into more detail about it, btu I'm not, unless you want it, let me know. P13 is the stock ecu for a H22. It's just the computer 'name', just like the p72 is for the gs-r and the p28 is (I believe for the civic). It would be helpful to yourself to do a search on the different ecu's. I have the p72 (no rev limiter) in my car with a JUN chip. But most ppl keep the p13.

doesn't the USDM H22 have all the emission crap on it too...that accounts for some lost power there

no... emissions should be the same. they both have egr evap etc. Japan has stricter emissions laws in fact which most people dont seem to realize. thats part of the whole reason they get rid of there cars/engines so quickly.

but the JDM p13 has a speed limiter, .4 points higher CR, better cams, and that's about it.
you just proved my point right there... thanks!

its the way you said it. yes it makes a few more hp, thats not debateable, but you said the japanese have been making these engines longer then the US and are a lot better at it. thats the part thats wrong. the usdm h22's are made in japan anyway I believe.

Sorry Mr. All-knowing. I dont' know everything there is about these motors, I know that, I will be the first to admit that, so you dont' have to call me out. Thats' why I'm in school learning about all of this right now. I may know more things about certain things, then you do, but just bc I'm a girl doesn't mean I don't knwo shyt. So, get your panties out of that bunch they're in, and stfu.

h22girl can i get a picture of you rpanties in a bunch hehehe j/k but anyway I never knew that japan had stricter emmissions over there I thought it was only about the body of the car just becoming un-safe and old becoming prone to rusting out. Jdm all the way carry on. Oh yeah really probably with 93 octane gas instead of the 100 octane gas over there from which I heard dont quote me on that one but I doubt if we are really gonna see that much of a jump to 200hp.
