    h22 auto

juss wondering the people with the h22 automatic how would they rate there perfortmance....acceleration....and compared to the f22a4/6 auto big difference or minimal

i used to have the f22a6 and now have the h22a, both automatics. i definitely feel the difference in power. i mean, up to about 5k when vtec kicks in - my h22a pulls like the f22 did. but when you're in vtec... that's where you feel the difference most. and when it shifts to 2nd, you're in vtec the whole gear. i chirp my tires in 2nd, and i never used to do that with the f22a6. also, with the longer gearing of the automatic, you'll shift to 3rd at like 75-80 mph!

but all in all, you'll gain about a full second on your 1/4 time over the f22a with the auto transmission. obviously not as much as with the manual tranny, but it'll still be fun to drive.

blah. the only reason you think driving a 5-speed in traffic is going to be that much of a pain in the ass is because you dont drive one yet. i would definitly say go 5-speed. after a few days you dont even realize you are shifting anymore, it becomes second nature. and it is a LOT more fun to drive than auto. I sit in providence traffic everyday with my 5-speed. its no more annoying than an auto is.

everybody who discourages someone to not drive a 5spd because of the common "city traffic" argument doesnt own a 5spd, like eric said. ill agree with him, the longer you have it the more you dont even realize that youre shifting, its second nature... and sitting in traffic all you do is leave it in first and use the pedals, u dont need to move the shifter at all...

if you have the option, definately go 5spd.

yeah, i never reccomended him to keep his car automatic. i just answered the question of the thread. an h22 with manual transmission would definitely be more fun to drive in general. but, trust me, redlining at 7,200 rpm is fun - automatic or not.

but i plan on swapping to the H22 LSD manual tranny myself.

Defitnetly do the 5 speed swap if you have the money availble. I wish i did it but the auto is still fun but you ll hate it when you want to stay in 2nd or 1st comin out of turns. Power difference is exactly how steve said it. And having the auto is fun for those straight aways and the track but if your trying to dip through curvy roads you will defitnetly want a 5 spd.

i say definetly wait and save up to do the conversion. doing it all at once will save alot in labor costs. i wasnt going to. i had planned on the whole level10 torque converter and so on, but now... i would never go back to a/t. traffic is bad at times, but i wouldnt ruin my car by keeping it auto just because of a few cars on the road. but thats life, just deal with it and go 5spd!! and with a m/t, redlining at 8k is even more fun.
