Quick verification question...when you rock the distributor towards the rear of the car (counterclockwise) you are advancing the ignition and retarding if you rock it towards the front of the car, correct?

Here's the story...got a customer thats having a low rpm (2300-2800rpm) knock under moderate acceleration. Told him to adjust timing at his distributor by clocking it and rotating it towards the front got rid of the knock. I'll be able to do this on the map easily i just needed verification that clockwise rotation was in fact retarding timingKnowledge is power...in EVERY sense of the word

think about how the rotor is connected directly to the cam.
looking at the dizzy from the cap side , counterclockwise (left toward the firewall) would be advancing it, clockwise toward the front of the car would be retarding.
