Tranny question

Well the car i got has a bad tranny... i new this going in and i have a extra tran already.

But anyway I want to see if I could fix this one later on. So here are the symtoms the car only moves in 2nd gear thats it. Also if I start the car i have to hold the clutch down I guess b/c its in gear. The shifter can move around and go into everygear. Just doesnt move in anything cept 2nd. im thinking its either the synchronours (spelled wrong) or the shift linkage. Any ideas?

I don't really see it being the shift cables. Take a look to make sure they aren't in some god awful bind.

so its a manual? you probably blew 1st gear on the tranny.

could be a clutch, could be the synchros, input shaft, any one of the gears, etc.

they aren't impossible to rebuild without knowledge of how they work, but they're not fun either. might be worth taking a look inside to see if anything appears broken, but you may wanna do a lot of reading before trying to rebuild it OR you could use it to learn the different parts of a manual tranny.

manuals are far simpler than autos usually.

yea thats my plan since i have a tranny ready to go in anyway rather than junking this one im just gonan take it apart and learn what i can. my dad rebuilt soem transmissons in his time so he will teach what i have to do and what not. I just thought id get some idea on what might the problem may be
