I had a similar problem. I read about the IACV, EGR, fats idle...etc.

None were the problem. It was my timing and balance belt.

do you have a CEL? even if you dont try and see if you pull any codes. if you still get no code...it might be your timing and or balance belt. It could also be a slipping clutch...this is what i still have.

Hmmmm...seems like my suggestion helped, but we never got a reply saying if you had fixed the problem and what fixed it. I wonder if ACCLUDE91 believes this is plausible yet.

YES thank you for the suggestion!!! But i really didnt think it was the Tbelt either. The old belts look GREAT, they look new!!! So I am not sure what was wrong, but it pretty much has fixed all my erratic rpm's

if you are getting CEL, pull the code and see what they are.

Um yeah the check engine light was on because yours truly left the connector to the egr unconnected! OOOPs!
But unfortunately the car is still surgeing from 1000 to 2500rpms
better than 3500 but still annoying and honda wants to hook it up for $30+! What should I do! The funny thing is that I went to the wrecker and found an ex with 287000kms on the running engine but with a smashed up drivers and rear door and hood are all smushed but the rest is alright! For $325cdn to spend or not to spend!!!

Took my car into honda (they didnt charge me for the diagnostic) and they said it was the fast idle valve ($80cdn) and they would install it for $26 more. I am leary on wether or not it will fix it! Fingers crossed!

checked everything except, fuel pump, tps, timing belt and b belt, and last the ecu!!

I have checked everything except, fuel pump, tps, timing belt and b belt, and last the ecu!! What is left! My engine goes from 1000 to 2500rpms not just my tach! And it is in sync up relativley slow and back down! Always exactley the same, and if my car is really low on gas the fuel pump quits altogether or so it seems!!!
No CEL but it is burning lots of gas!!!
Anyone have a clue!!! I really would like to fix it!!!

I'm having the same problem my car surges until it reaches normal running temp. The RPMS surge when the car is ideling from 1,000 to 3,500. My car does not start every now and again I have not noticed where the gas guage was I will have to watch that!! Anybody come up with a solution to this problem?

My car surges all the time, cold and at operating-temp!
I bought an 93 ex from the wrecker and swapped the:
                        iac valve,
throttle body(with tps) cleaned it up,
                        new fast idle valve,
whole "black box" with map sensor and others,
coolant temp sensor! And it still persists!
My trunk sensor light in the gauge cluster is on dimmly until I open the trunk then gets brighter! It does this when fuel pump isnt getting enough fuel!?! Maybe a possibility? Or main relay!? Or ecu?

                          91cord

check around for another "fast idle valve" that is most likely your prob! Also check coolant level! It runs through the fast idle!

I'll have to find a new Fast Idle Valve then cause my coolent level is perfect. I'll let you guys know how it goes. Thanks for the help and keep your fingers crossed

would suggest a wrecker part or maybe just twist the original down a little! there is a section in the forums that explains the procedure! A new fiv costs $95 Cdn! And for a part that is not for sure!
Tomorrow I will replace fuel pump! Fingers are crossed!
