    overheating

i was just on my way home from grandma's house when i noticed my temp gauge going up, when I got to my street the car was in the red, I turned it off and coasted into the driveway. I noticed while I was driving that the heat was on and the air wasnt hot like it usually was and at one point it wasnt hot at all. But when I got out the hose under the distributor looked to be ruptured and was steaming from there, and appeared to be a little bit of coolant sitting on the transmission(5 speed). Do you think it's the thermostat, even though its only 6 months old, and my water pump is new also. I want to check the coolant but Im going to let the car sit at least an hour.

You have a leak somewhere. Coolant is what carries heat and when you have no coolant to transfer heat out of the engine to the heater core you get no heat. no coolant= no heat, but you still overheat. Sounds like you ruputured a heater hose. Easy fix. Go to the parts store and get some 5/8th coolant hose. The blue goodyear kind is the best.

      the hose is ruptured

the hose under the distributor has a lil split in it right near the clamp next to the head. I noticed it just as I went out to checkit, this could be the cause of why the heat was acting funny. I topped my coolant back off with only a 1/4 a gallon of antifreeze 50/50 and so is that the heater hose.

ok i see the leak but...

I have white smoke out of the tail pipe and no heat. I'm guessing the hose isnt the culprit, either thermostat is bad, or head gasket is blown I just topped the car off with water and it idles fine, temp was at normal but no heat, then I started racing the engine and the gauge went up and the fan kicked on. Still no heat and a lil smoke.

the head gasket could have blown from over heating caused by the heater hose that goes to the head where you said the hose was split. now keep in mind that as it heats up and the car is moving it is going to cause more water to flow and more pressure to build up which will change the amount of water loss through a point ... i have seen pinholes in lines spray water like supper soaker water guns when reving a hot motor while there would be no hint of a leak when cold ... just my .02 ... oh and i hope you didnt warp anything overheating it ... should have cut it long before it got into the red ...

I changed the thermostat and the heater hose and I now have a semi-happy cb7. thanks for all your support.

Air bubbles. You will have to bleed the system free of air or she'll run hot on you.
