    H22A PISTONS need ADVICE

I recently blew the ring lands on my h22a. So i pulled the motor apart and bought some JE 9:1 pistons. However NOW people are telling me that i can NOT use JE pistons unless i sleve the block. Is STOCK pistons my ONLY choice if im not sleving the block? So someone give me some insight please because I already spent 650 bucks on the JE pistons and dont know if i can return them.

Yes it will require you to sleeve the block. Another choice would be some jdm prelude type s pistons but it will up your compression.

Since you already spend that amount of money I say go all the way resleeve it throw some good rods in there get some fuel management and boost it.

oh i forgot to add that in.. i boost thats why i got 9:1 pistons. i dont have the money to resleve it so i will sell the new pistons and put some oem ones with new rings and a thicker head gasket. and keep the boost below 10

WTF below ten you mean below 7 with a nice tuner. Hope you arent gonna beat on that motor everyday or else your in for a rude awakening. I say dont boost that motor yet or keep it at 6.5 psi with a good tuner with some good fuel management like hondata with a chipped p28.

Id keep the pistons if i were you just dont slap em in there yet save up for the resleve and some rods to match it up some and the seals and your good run the engine for a while let it wear itself. Then from there then start piecin up the parts for boost go custom im sure one of our techies can help you out on this board. OH and did i forget to mention our ringlands are weak for our motors so just be patient and take your time with this motor.

Yeah, Sparkle pretty much nailed it there... You can't use forged pistons due to the FRM sleeves in the H22. You need to get some aftermarket sleeves to run those pistons. Golden Eagle I think it is that makes them... Expect to pay $800 or so for the sleeves, and I don't know how much for install.

Your other option is to sell or return the pistons you bought and contact JUN. They DO make pistons that will work with the stock sleeves. Expect upwards of $1000 for them, but they will work. JUN makes some of the sickest Honda parts ever.

Well i decided to just sleve it with darton sleves. i already have the full boost set up to include the vfac no hondata though

vafc will get you started. Hondata (or even a chipped ECU turned standalone as I hope to build...) will be an upgrade for later.

Does Darton make sleeves for the H22? I thought they didn't... Either way, sleeving is the way to go. Good decision, especially if you were planning boost anyway.
