    Whirring noise upon acceleration...

I dont know how else to explain it.

Im AT, so im not shifting, but from a dead stop, and even while in motion, i can hear this "whirring" noise. Almost like a wind-up...

I dont hear it from the second i hit the pedal. I'll step on the gas, and as the rpm's climb and the gear is about to shift, this sound begins. It gets louder, then when it shifts, the noise stops. And just as the next gear is about half-way through, the noise begins again, climbs, then stops.

Its not loud by any means, but i can hear it over my exhaust, driving down the road.

I might also wanna add that i think my torque converter is going. Between 50 and 60mph, my car revs, bogs, thens revs again and just does this "lugging" sound/motion unless i let off or get on it.

Not sure if both are the same problem, but...

Is it like an engine noise, or perhaps a whining from the stereo? like alternator noise?

yeah mine does this off and on, but I had my trans and torque converter rebuilt and replaced. So is your fluid okay? not dirty?

my AT does that when the engine is idling. if i give it enough gas to get to about 2000rpms that it quiets down.

you know that long screw driver trick where if you place it all over the engine you can hear the internal sounds? that's how i found mine was coming from the transmission.

If this noise is what I'm thinking of its completely normal.

You try flushing the fluid? Does it make noise in gear then go away when you say..shift to nuetral manually?

It's obviously the transmission, either the fluid is low, needs to be changed, your gears are scored, or the torque converter is the cause.

I'll check the fluid. Might need to be flushed.

I havent treid shifting it into N, but ill try that next time i go out.

Its not the stereo. Im pretty sure its engine or tranny. Its like a high-pitched whine. Almost sounds like a turbo build up. I know thats way off, but thats the only thing i can think of. It does it about half way through the gear and once it shifts and drops rpm's the sound goes away for a few seconds until its half way through the next gear.

Tranny fluid i can handle. But how bad can it get if its the converter?

Yea I know what your talking about its completely normal. Let me guess, it only happens when cruising about 1/4 throttle give or take and you haven't had a hurt in performance at all from your car.

yeah when my car does this, I didn't notice anything wrong. So I think its fine. At first, I thought it was b/c I ran my Amp wire through that hole in the firewall and left that plug open, so the noise was coming through there, but nope, still can hear it no matter what. It went away when I drained and filled my trans w/ new fluid though, so get 4 qts of ATF and do that.

Mine does that because of the timing belt, sounds like a supercharger. That's because I didn't have the TB tensioner spring and manually tensioned the belt though, and it's probably a little too tight. Sounds cool, but I'm going to change the belt after about 30k miles to make sure I don't have any problems.

Find out if it's coming from the driver or passenger side of the engine bay. Driver's side is likely timing belt noise, passenger side is probably transmission.

Its hard to tell which side. It only does it when im driving, so....

As for the TB, i just had it redone recently when i had MC and PS pump done. Like not even 1000 miles ago.
