Steering wheels squeaks when driving slowly

Whenever I'm driving 5 MPH or slower and turning the steering wheel, it squeaks. It's not a horrible sound, but it sounds like something needs to be re-greased. Is this the steering linkages, or am I completely off base?

Any help you guys can offer would be appreciated.

And the ninjas had sweet victory, and there was much rejoicing.

I have the same problem, well mine is more of a whine sound. I had the steering column replaced but it still does it. Wish I could help but I'm looking for answers as well.

My car does it as well, more so when it's cold. Never figured it out, and it comes and goes.

yeah if it's like a winding noise that goes high and low depending on how fast you turn the wheel, then for sure its a power steering pump. I had to replace mine because it made loud groans.

there was a recall on 90-91 i believe about whirring noises when turning the wheel... and noise when car is accelerating something with timing belt for this one...

Mine has done this since I bought it 2 1/2 years ago... it seems to happen when the temp gets to about 20 degrees or below. It's just the steering pump though... worst case it dies on you and you get slightly heavier steering til you can fix it. I don't think it's worth replacing until that point... unless it's absolutely grating on you.

Mine is not the pump. It does not "groan." It sounds more like "reeeet." It's also not the belt, before everyone points that out.

Yeah, it only happens when I'm parking. That's the only time I''m going slow enough to be turning the wheel all the way.

But there's no steering linkage or something that I can grease to make the problem go away?

                          here you go!

take off the pump...and just muscle it!

NOTE: be sure to cap off the rack hoses..so it doesn't lose fluid. ( to retain lube )

                          just muscle it

you will get stronger by the end of the week ( GURANTEE )

now...all you need is manual brake ( where you have to stand on them to stop the car...and you my friend have an all in one workout.

no..seriously..its the pump. get another one....flush the lines....run new fluid through it...bleed it. make sure you get a new belt too.

Thanks everyone for the information. I'm not in the habit of replacing things that might or might not solve the problem. That's an easy way to start blowing money. What more info do you need to be more confident in a solution?
