    clutch question

ok so i test drove this 5spd 5th gen accord, and im still kinda new to the whol manual ordeal, i mean i can do it with out stalling now and i can resverse into spots and what not, but when i drove the car(which has like 94-95k miles on it) everytime i shifted into a higher gear it would like...jump alittle and then rev up to 2k+, my friend said the clutch could be slipping, is that the problem or could it be something else? im asking cause im interested in the car but i dont really know anything about clutches or anything as for ive been driving automatics my whole life

When my clutch was bad, as in slippin. It didn't jump and revv. When the clutch is slippin u have to give it more gas when startin to grab.

ok, but it was just rather wierd to me cause ive driven a few manual cars like a vr-4, 300zx(z32), civic, a 5th gen accord(first manual car ive ever driven), some shitty saturn and an 02wrx and that never happened to me on any of those cars so it was jsut wierd to me, like it literally happen every time i shifted....can any one offer any help?

so was it jumping as you pressed the clutch after gears or it jumped after you engaged the clutch and gave it gas?

I don't know but in my opinion it sound like your hestitating when engaging the clutch. For Instance you are pressing the gas early and engaging the clutch or you still have your foot on the gas a little when engaging the clutch slowly some one correct me if im wrong I only drove two cars with a 5 speed My Uncle and my cb7

about what rpm are you shiftting at??? if you shift around 3500 4000 rpm push the clutch in and let off the gas shift the gear let the clutch back out and then hit the gas again you should have any problems.... just d4rive the stick some more and you should get use to it fast....

i understand what joemamma is talking about.

he is driving normally, fairly accustomed to manual transmission.

while driving normally (not agressively) he will perform a normal shift into id say 3rd or 4th gear and the car will as he calls jump, but its more of a a jump sensation because he is giving the car gas but it is not moving with the same momentum as the pervious gear, and it will continue to rev higher rpms before engaging and begin driving normally.

if this is the case i reccomend re-engaging the clutch shift back into a lower gear (dont release the clutch) than shift it back into the initial gear you were in.

but yes i believe that is a failure of the clutch material being worn. sounds like somebody was trying to mash the car hard but either missed a lot of shifts or was a real bad driver at a stick.

so how would that be fixed, just a new clutch?

{edit} i just realized you said it was the clutch

is it hard to put in a new clutch? i mean i figured i could talk to the guy down less being the clutch is on its way out, and then by an exedy clutch and put that in, or maybe you guys could recommend another type of clutch that is good based on personal experience

taking out the axles is probably half of it already. At least you're able to get that axle nut off. I guess i'm going to go buy a uber long metal pipe for more leverage.
