    AC problems

hey guys Imo having some issues with my AC. i noticed that the passenger side Ac vents blow much colder then the drivers side Ac vents.

I find myself having to close the passenger side vents just to to get colder air on the drivers side.

my question is it something to do with the freon or do i need to have my ac serviced?

any suggestions on how i can fix my problem would be greatly appreciated.

alright, well i guess ill inspect the vents as soon as i get a hold of my tool set from a friend who borrowed it.

ill see what going on thanks for your help.

i also was wondering if you knew if it was a good idea to do the retrofit kit from a local auto parts store? would changing the freon to R-134 be better?

Only if you have a problem with it,(like a leak) Otherwise stick with R12

Advance Auto parts has the conversion kit with everything you need for $36.98... and if you dont have AAP where you live, you can get the kit from any autoparts store.. Its easy to convert.. also, to check for leaks, you can by UV dye, as well as the UV light to check for leaks.. talk to an employee at Advance or somewhere else, and they will explain more in detail....

yeh it sounds like u have a blend dorr problem...turn on your heat and see if it seems hotter o the passenger side too...that should help narrow it down...try to look in a hanyes or honda service manual and see what exctly controls the flow from the passenger side to the drivers side...as far as checking for leaks,u need to have dye injected, and look at it with a special uv light... and if u do have leaks then i would definately retrofit it...r12 is very very expensive and to find someone certified to buy it can be tough hope this helps

we have auto zone out here. last time i was in there i saw the retrofit kit that you were talking about for about $40 bucks.
thats why i asked about it.

do they sell the AC leak kit as a bundle?

                    thanks for your info.

what do you mean by a blend door problem? so i just see if the passenger side is get hotter then the drivers? will it really make a difference because i live in las vegas. its always hot here. lol

so i should go with r-134? i know for a fact that the r-12 is hard to come by, at least here in vegas it is. i had to call around town just to find a little hole in a wall shop that carries it.

they probably had some sitting around from the 90's.

                    thanks for all the info!

well i guess blend door isnt the correct term that controls wether its hot cold or in the middle, there should be a "door" that controls where the air is, like vent, defrost,or on the floor...like i said im not 100 percent sure on exactly how the system is i dont have a diagram of it....if u can get ur hands on a pic of the heater box ur problem area will probably jump out at you...as far as 134 vs r12 i would definately switch if u have leaks....r12 is almost completely dead like impossible to get...and if u can it is ver y very expensive...i switched mine to 134 and it really works well....but a good suggestion is to change ur reciever/dryer,the fitting, and any o-rings that are easy to get to...that way it guarantees a seal...the 134 is "thinner"folr lack of better words and can leak out easier if u dont do the retrofit right...wish i was out there to take a look man this is a hard one witout being with the car..good luck

thanks for all your help man. i have a hayne's manuel for our car. im going to look and see if there is any diagram of the heater box. i have a friend who knows our cb7s pritty well here in vegas, it would be great if you could just look at it.

anyways im going to do some research on the retrofit swap. i wonder if i should just get a reputable shop to do it, or if i should just do it.

thanks for all your help man. ill let you know what i do.

well u could prolly do the retrofit ur self....its really not hard...but u do ned a set of a/c disconnect tools...well fuel line disconnect tools are the same thing so...if u are going to do it, a bit of advice, make sure u lube the orings with a/c oil....ull need ester oil...then just get a shop to charge it for you...good luck keep me posted

also you need to drain your r12 first. its illegal to do so , so try 2 find a way where u dont get caught lol

my friend took his car to the woods and left it sitting there for a good minute with the caps off till it seemed to all have been gone.

honestly i dont think you should retrofit. if your ac works just leave it because once its gone ur gonna say "i shouldnt have messed with it" lol
