honestly i dont think you should retrofit. if your ac works just leave it because once its gone ur gonna say "i shouldnt have messed with it" lol
i see what you are saying.

well today my Ac finally went out. seems to me that its the condenser. when it was working i could hear the condenser hissing.

now no hissing. now this sucks because its over 100 degrees everyday!

u could hear a hissing??well if u could hear it when u turned it off, thats normal...i would definately get some dye and inject it into the system, then out like 1.5 pounds of freon in it and check where it is leaking...that way u are sure what is bad...a/c work is ver yexpensive as i am sure u know...if u dont have the means to do it urself, i would have a shop inject dye and charge it for you, then drive it until it stops working again, then u cna find the leak....i dunno man good luck i am sure it is super hot out there

well i took it to a shop right across the street from my house. they worked on my car before, belts, power-steering fluid drain/refill etc.

i took it there yesterday and they said i had a small hole in the line. he showed me where it was with the UV dye.

so since i had no freon my condenser fried itself.

so heres what my work order looks like:
        Condenser $150
        Retrofit to R134 $40
        Broken Ac Line $20
R134 Recharge with free freon top off for 3 years (o yes!) $120
        Install $120

so $450 for everything? i dont think thats to bad, it could be a lot worst!

just got my car back from the shop. all i can say is, WOW! its like a brand new car. my only problem with the new system is that its smells "odd" like freon or something. i called the shop that did all the work on my car and they said that it would go away in a week or so.

we shall see..... other than that, its amazing!

they did all what to your car? i took my car to a honda specialist, so i dont mind spending the extra money on a really good shop.

i like the fact that there was like 3 NSXs out side of the shop. i dont mind.

yeh thats is hardly a rip off...i have my own automotive business, specializing in hondas and acuras and that is a fair price, mayb slightly higher than i charge on parts, but other than that very fair....good thing it worked out for you and it wasnt something inside the dash...
