The bottom end is fine. The pistons are much stronger than the valves...

Unless of course, your bottom end was already unhealthy.

You may also want to price compare. It is going to cost a fair chunk of change to rebuild a head to OEM quality.

just for comparison, when I did my HG, my cylinder head cost about 300 OTD to put new valvestem seals in and for a 3 angle valve job w/ milling of the head and pressure test for leaks. So if you have any bent valves....might be a bit more.

Anyone have experience with this place? (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/REBUI...spagenameZWDVW) They are a cylinder head exchange, and they only want $285 shipped for a rebuilt F22 head. The bottom end has 225k on it, round about, and judging by the minor sludging on the cylinder head once I removed the VC, it may not be in super shape. The kid that bought the car only makes $35 a week, and I only have $350 from him to spend on parts...I already have a head gasket, just need to get this rebuilt head (or rebuild the one on the motor) and a timing belt/wp.

Where do you find all that for that price? That's not too bad.

where can you get an H23 for 790?

and what is the goal of this car? Performance, reliability, a blend of the two?

For reliability and fuel economy, I'd be inclined to rebuild the F stock. Otherwise, for a blend I'm all over the H23

Well, cylinder head is off. Time to windex that bitch and see how many valves leak.

Cylinder 3 valves = super owned.
Cylinder 2 valves = sorta owned.

                        Cylinders 1 and 4 are A-OK.

I would never swap a SOHC F22Bx into any car I own, lol.

F22B DOHC is a different story though.

hdy jake i wouldnt trust the windex test, when i tested the h22 valves in my f20b head they didn't leak, but they still leaked air, remember air can get through places liquid couldnt even dream of, and i didn't know you had a coupe, btw id say f22b over h23 but only cause it will have less miles and its cheaper
