My speedometer was acting up for quiet a while now. It would sometimes go up and down while I'm in idle not even driving or wouldn't work at all while I am. I was told to change the speedometer sensor which I received a few days ago and installed today. Now it doesn't even work at all anymore. It's not acting up or moving in any way. This same problem causes a check engine when engine braking so it kind of pisses me off. Would anyone know what it could be? Thanks.

What do you mean gear part or switch? All I changed so far in order to try and fix it is the speedometer sensor which includes the electrical and mechanical part. The odd thing is that it was working fine when I bought the car last summer.Originally posted by nine_deuce View PostDid you change the gear part, or the switch? And, gauges can stop working, after all, it is a 15 to 18 year old car, things stop working over time

Ok.... I ran a check engine diagnose since I told you guys whenever the speedometer doesn't work and I sow the car down, the check engine light goes on. According to the code, it is in fact the speed sensor. However, as you guys already know, I already changed the speed sensor. With the old one it used to work sometimes but now with the "new" one it doesn't. I'm starting to wondering if that new one is even functional. I took my old one apart and it was full of smelly black grease. It literally smelled like shit mixed with oil. I cleaned it up and I'll replace it on Saturday to see if it works. I'll also check for squeeze wires since my fuel gauge didn't work because of one. It might be the case of my speedometer too who knows. All I know is that it is getting annoying. I had all the possible electrical problems with my car. I changed the driver side window master already, my distributor, now my speed sensor and I still have my brake light that goes on due to a bad connection somewhere at the taillights and my fuel gauge only works when I pull the dash light intensity button out and straighten the wires
Anyway that's all just bad connection. What I really want to fix is that damn speedometer.
