    Cold engine...

Hi, i've heard that when your engine is cold (not to its normal running temp... ) you should not push the engine more than 3 000 rpm cause its not very good for the engine/tranny .... Is it true ....

im not so sure about 3000 rpm but i do know that when the oil is cold it doesn't lubricate as well. after a while of hard driving while cold it might cause some wear on stuff

You can let the car warm up (idle) before driving it, but it's not necessary. Just drive it gently for the first 10 minutes or so or until the coolant temperature gauge is about right in the middle or slightly above, which is around 190-200 F. (Coolnat temperature is a good proxy for oil temperature). the engine needs a certain amount of oil flowing through it at given rpms. When the oil is cold (70-100deg F or so) , it doesn't flow well enough and putting the RPMs up high increases the engine wear in that scenario.

If you have to rev it to 3000 or above for a safety/driving related reason, that's ok, but don't run it at the 3000 or above level continuously until the car is warmed up properly is the way to baby your engine.

If you are using 5w-30 oil, itreaches its ideal viscosity for our engines around 190-212F, which is about what it runs at when the engine is heating up.

if you really want to understand this, read the thread posted about a week ago about oil--it has a link to a very good article on a Ferrari forum about the oil requirements of engines (which I've read twice).

otherwise, just take it easy for the first 10 minutes of driving.

yeah just like this.....would you wanna be pushed hard right when you get out of bed? no, you'd want to wake up for a little bit, have a cup of coffee or eat something. A car is kinda like that, it needs to be fed warm engine oil through its veins before it does any strenous running. lol, that was my best shot at a metaphor.
