CEL code 12, how to fix?

im throwin a code 12 on my ECU, and i believe thats the EGR...

how can I go about fixin this? The light only comes on after 4 minutes of driving at normal stop and go speeds. Then once i shut off the car and start it back up theres no CEL. Is there a simple fix i can go about doin?

    thanks guys

My car also does this. I searched and found out that sometimes it is because of clogged EGR galleys. So I cleaned mine out and it still throws a CEL. I called and IIRC it was either $200-$250 for a new EGR valve so I am still throwing a CEL.

I have the same code on my car.. The car idles way lower when the check engine light comes on (like 300rpm instead of 800) and the engine makes a weird humming sound.... I need to clean my egr ports, but is it possible to do it without drilling the holes (I have a 1990)? My mechanic said we can just take off the egr valve and spray some throttle body cleaner in the passage. Will this be good enough for fixing my egr problem? It's really annoying...

          yea me too

I tried another egr valve, seaform, engine degreaser on both the intake and exhaust side of the egr and two gaskets at the same time, and it still throws the code. im beginning to think that the wiring might be the cause.

any ideas on how to fix this would be great

              Bump.

Not enough info around on EGR stuff.. Drilling the holes is a huge pain in the ass and I dont want to risk getting metal shavings in my engine...
