    h23 intake manifold swap questions

well i found a good write up on it and have most of it figured out.....a few things thou....
i have an f22a4 in my car now, i have to look and see what computer is in it because i put this motor in it, when the old one went bad before i got the car...and didnt pay attention to what came out of it...it might have been an original a6 car....

so my question is the h23 manifold has butterflys in it which is computer controlled right??so if i dont have a a6 ecu then i either need to get the right computer or remove the butterflys correct??which do u guys think is a better option??performance and driveability wise...i am hoping it has the right ecu in ir now and i dont have to worry about it...

thanks for your help in advance

    Ok the A1 and A4 have a PT3, the A6 has a PT6.
For im setup if you have a PT6 get the h23 man. Gut A(not the one that comes with the man) h23 the spacer(sry forgot correct name). Stack the gutted one on top of the one with the butterflies and seal it up.
If you have a PT3, just gut the spacer that comes with it and go. No need for a second unless you just want the extra hp.

If thats not clear enough im sure one of the others will clear it up a little more

yes regardless of the ECU remove the butterflies. Just if its te PT6 ECU have two spacers one with and one without. As far as the heat shield i don't know i've never have one but just search around about it you might find some info on it. Also save you from having a moderator that you should search. Plus you'll save yours and other peoples time.

Depends on where you get it. Probaly around 50 buck on ebay and from the juckyard 20ish(thats what it is here at pull-a-part).

It can be set up to run on vacuum, but it is controlled by a little black box on the underside of the intake manifold.

You can also hook it up to straight vacuum. It will not open the butterflies at the exact time that they are supposed to open as if it was controlled by the ECU (they will open around 2000 rpm on straight vacuum), but it will still work. Best thing to do is just take them out if you want the performance all the time. If you don't feel like taking out the whole thing (butterflies, rod, and sealing the holes that the rod was in), You can just take the 2 screws off of each of the valves them self and leave the rod in.

                            Here's what I did:

h23 COMPLETE intake manifold with black vacuum box from non vtec prelude
pt6 ecu grabbed from an ex with an f22a6 motor

You can also use f22a6 runners instead.

Don't run it off mechanical vacuum. Run it to the ECU. One of the points of this modification is to get low end torque. This can be achieved with closed butterflies at low rpms which straight vacuum does not allow for.

                            ...adjust accordingly
