    Help with ignition issue

I have had this issue for a while and desperately want to solve it because it occasionally leaves me stranded for 35 to 40 minutes every 20 or so starts or after a long drive when the engine is hot.

so after I shut the car down, and go to a store and come back in 5 minutes, I turn the key and the dash lights up, but I get no starter cranking.

The results are similar to turning the key without depressing the clutch so I think it's possible that it may be a neutral safety switch, but it seems more likely to be a loose wire or something in the ignition switch.

Recently, I have cut the down time into 5 minutes by jiggling the key and twisting it rapidly on and off in the switch and stomping on the clutch fast and hard. 5 minutes of downtime is better than 40 minutes (probably the wires cooled and made contact again). Jiggling it probably forces them to contact as well.

So what advice can you experts give me to solve this issue? Can be an ignitor, ignition switch, and maybe a neutral safety switch. How do I check these things with a multimeter?

I hate driving this thing feeling like I will be let down at any minute. I have replaced the main relay already with a new unit and this issue I have occurs in the heat of summer and the freeze of winter, so I doubt it's the main relay.

I'd check all the battery and ground connections, but would also test the starter solenoid. It may be building resistance when hot. Put the car in neutral next time it happens, and try a jumper wire directly from the bat positive to the start pin on the starter. Use a remote start button. You may also have a bad main relay that has corroded or burnt contacts. If it turns right over directly from the battery look at the main relay
My inferiority complex isn't as good as yours.
