Scary electrical issue, need help!

OK here's the scenario

Sometimes when I'm driving all the electricals blip out, the ABS light comes on and the temp gauge shoots all the way up

Today it happened and my car died at a stop sign.

I am thinking its a possible bad/loose ground issue. I have an audio system... other than that, as far as I know everything w/the electricals is alright.

I recently replaced my battery and some cables... I couldn't remove the old starter to battery cable from whatever harness it was on, but that's not connected to anything.

Any suggestions???
