I was correct, there are different ECUs for the different transmissions. I have no idea if one will run the other, but here are part numbers.

    MT - 37820-PT6-A12
    AT - 37820-PT6-A53

Interesting enough, the AT one is $85 more than the MT.

It shouldn't matter if its a manual or automatic ECU since it's the TCU that controls the transmission.

I'm sure it might have a few extra resistors or possibly different maps (probably not enough to make any difference or matter), but either ECU can be used interchangeably.

And glad to hear you are enjoying the P12, it was fun for the short time I had it.

yea the manual or auto ecu doesnt matter they can be used interchangebly.. an i also swapped f22 from an a1 to an a6 an i used a pt3 for awhile (car ran flawless) , then i plugged a pt6 an i noticed no difference bro...

          PT3....90-91 DX/LX/EX...92-93 DX/LX ( NO IABs )
          PT6 ..92-93 EX/SE..possibly 90 SE ( IABs. )

you run a A1 or A4 with a PT6...you will run RICH..because its pumping more fuel and thinking you have the secondaries..and there not present.

now..you run a A6 with a PT3...you'll run a little lean...the added air and lack of enough fuel needed for the secondaries...you'll run lean..

          not good either way.

simply put...run the correct ECU for the trim CB you have.

          A1/A4 ...( PT3 )

A6 EX/SE ( PT6 ) only the A6s have secondaries...hence the PT6 is programed to give more fuel when the secondaries open up at a certain rpm.

follow the trim and year of your car..and the correct ECU.

          stock for stock.

          so here it is again....

          A1/A4 ...( PT3 )

          A6...( PT6 )

NOTE: if you run a A1 with the A6 or H23 intake mani...you will need the PT6.

best bet...redo the head...get the 272 cam..hybrid intake mani..A6 lower plenum and H23 or F22B upper plenum...and PO6 chipped. with the A4 header and DP!

the AT and MT ECUs ARE different. I found out when doing my H22 Auto swap. I tried testing my friends MT P13 and my D4 light flashed when I had that in. When I put my AT P13 in, no more flashing D4.

Idk if it has the same affect when using an AT ECU in an MT car though. But the other way around makes the D4 flash and possibly affects the shift points....i didn't have it in long enough to find out.

If say we have an 91 LX auto with the A1 and were considering a more aggressive TCU (higher shift points etc?) to go with mods (I/H/E, cam and H23 mani) What would we look for an A6 TCU? Any other suggestions?
