    Oil Pressure Switch Removal

Has anyone removed the oil pressure switch before? What's the easiest way to remove it? There isn't much room behind the engine to work with. The reason why I want to remove it is that I suspect oil is leaking out of it so I want to remove it and put on some new sealant on the threads.

Here's a link taken from the repair manual to illustrate where the oil pressure switch is: http://www.honda.co.uk/owner/AccordM...400/16-125.pdf

Get a socket the right size? I used an adjustable wrench on mine but its in a different place.

Use the button. Its there for a reason.

I used Vice Grips on mine to get it off. It has a plastic cover on it. Don't be intimidated by the narrow area to work with. Pull one side of the car up on a curb, get under the car, remove the oil filter, and go to town on the switch.

I've done this before. It was leaking badly out of the plastic/nylon like portion of it that cracked I assume from constant heat exposure. Anyhow, because this unit is located just above the oil filter, it gave me the impression my oil filter was leaking (even though I have never had an issue with this and I do my own oil changes). The oil will trail down around the oil filter and down to your downpipe, burning and creating a smell and smoke when ur at low speeds where u can notice this...even more so after you slow down from going at the higher RPMs.

I changed my oil at this time because it is easier to drain oil, remove oil filter so you have more room to work with, then attack the oil pressure switch...first disconnect the wire of it, then remove it. Then, install the new one by hand AFTER putting some liquid teflon thread sealant on the threads, then tighten by hand. Now, torque this unit down to spec...I'd have to look that up, but it's not much...something like 13 lb-ft or something. Don't be afraid when it feels like it bottoms out, you'll torque it down a bit more. It's a tapered pipe thread, that's the whole purpose of it for a good seal.

Reconnect the wire, install oil filter (oil seal up a lil), put ur oil in and drop the biotch down. You'll be happy ur not inhaling burnt oil no more.
