weird electrical problem

my tach is acting really weird while driving and my car is shuttin down almost. its almost as if my tps sensor is bad but i know for sure its not because i just changed that. anyway, i know for a fact that the thermostat ground wire is broke somewhere, could the car just be shorting while driving and i could just run a new ground. what do u guys think?thanks-eric
