    inaccurate speedo

i cant believe i remembered my password.. its been a yr plus since log in.

well, got a new accord and got new problems.. been reading but cant get a direct answer to my problem

so got car with 14's got 3 outta my four alloys on there * long story* two alloys up front. so the speedo goes up to 80mph quickly and sits there. now I know its off just by how fast it gets up there..

i changed the trans speed sensor but not the drive gear which is in my hand right now. i also have my old speedo sitting on my desk which is good.

my question is, which one i take a shot at first. i just wanna get driving it and let my jeep rest. it doesnt jump or skip just shoots up the speedo.

So you did replace your vss? Take it to a honda dealer or shop that can reprogram the speedo. Or just get a garmin and use the speedo on it lol it what i do sometimes cause mine stick at one speed cause of the gauge plant on it.

yup pulled it outta my wrecked white 92. taking it to honda would be iffy.. I dislike dealerships.. but if they can make changes to the speedo quickly and at a fair cost then ok.. just trying to avoid it.

You don't have to go to a dealer though you can just go to a local auto shop and see if they can do it.

Yeah or you have a bad vss or some faulty wiring.

im doubting faulty wiring.. im lazy and dont wanna pull cluster to change speedo... maybe when i do leds like my old setup..

i will if i have to tho.

maybe i"ll try for the speed sensor drive gear first.

i still gotta address my steering rack and ps pump thats being a bitch.

Assuming it is not VSS related issue...check the wheel diameter sizing on your current setup (on all wheels).

                  15" Stock Setup Example: 195/60 R15

                  [(0.60 x 195 x 2)/ 25.4 ] + 15 = 24.21 inches overall wheel diameter

** NOTE: You need to be within +/- 0.4 inches of above, to have speedo accurate. **

Use same formula format with your 14 inch wheel setup. I think they are 185/70 R 14 stock? I forget. That comes out to 24.19 inches overall wheel diameter anyhow, so it is probably right. Either way, the stock 14" and 15" rims setups will retain similar overall wheel diameters, as the rest of the car functions the same.

If it is wheel related and your speedo seems fast, that would mean your overall wheel diameter setup on your car is wrong and on the smaller side than what it should be. Perhaps low profile tires on a 14" rim setup?

                  FYI:

14 inch rims of stock 90-93 Accords were steelies, not alloys. Only the 15" rims came in alloys.

hmm, shoulda been more detailed.. I had a white ex with 15in alloys, my new ex had 14 steels on there. during my stupid moment I trashed one of my rims. that explains my 3 outta 4 deal.. my 15s had the stock profile.
