    0w40?

has anybody here heard of this type of motor oil before?

my uncle works for exxon and he says that it is what they put in the new vipers, corvettes etc. i was wondering if anybody has tried this in an accord?

Viper oil does not equal VIPER PERFORMANCE.

Stick with 10w30 if you car has under 75k. miles.

and i prefer 10w40 for 75 or 100 and above.

i use 10w30 all year round and i burn a bit of oil so i was thinking of going to 10w40 all year round because maybe the thicker weight oil would burn slower? i dont know just a thought.

yeah, keep it w/10w30.. put the 0w40 in your car, and it wont run as efficiently.

Actually with a lighter weight oil your engine will have less drag from the oil and will turn more easily (no, not bs). The problem is, the tolerances are pretty large on a well broken in engine so that means the 0W-40 will make it past the rings and other seals much more easily.

I think the 7th gen Accords spec 0W-30 for the 4 bangers.....I think

at 160,000 miles you should DEFF. be on 10w40.

And yes, if you are burning a little oil, give 10-40 a try. It won't hurt anything, and most likely both of you guy's clearances are fairly larger than "factory".

I only run 10-30 on newer cars or something with less than 70k or so miles.

                  ha. Lucas is the shit.

But only if your engine is BADLY worn. That stuff is SUPER thick. I admit it will deff. prolong and engines death, but not good for a healthy engine.

On a side note, i use that stuff in my manual tranny, and front and rear diffs in my 4*4 toyota. Gotta love the stuff.

You know I've been wondering if I should switch to 10-40. My car has 164K and I've always ran 10-30. My F22a6 doesn't burn or leak an ounce of oil. Gotta love them Hondas!

what? our cars say to only use 5w-30! thats what the haynes and he car manual say. why is everyone using 10w-40? maybe i should switch to 10w-40, any reason no one is using the weight it says to?

40 weight is thicker than 30 weight though...

it's just a different heat range...

I accidentally put 2 quarts of 50w in my F22A1 once a long ass time ago when doing an oil change... it felt all sluggish and I couldn't figure out why... did another oil change a bit after that and it felt better... I didn't even notice the old 50w bottles until much later and put 2 and 2 together...

that weight is for a brand new car.

If your car has over 100k miles, the clearances are slightly larger, and your oil should be slightly thicker.

If 10-30 isn't burning, then cool.

I have 173k+ and still run 5w30, either Castrol or regular Mobil oil and it runs like a top.
