No, when the thermostat is closed no water circulates through the radiator. It does still circulate within the engine, and through the heater core (if the heater valve is open).

When it's closed yes, there is a bypass. Also it should flow to the heater core as long as the valve is open for it. Why do you want to know?

yea heater core source should be directly off the water pipe and the head

well kind off. I have mixture of coolant thats mostly water, and the past two days, the coolant has been freezing in the morning. So on my drive to school, I get no heat because of no flow, and since only the head is actually getting hot, and the water temp sensor is right by the front neck, so my temp gauge shows that my car is overheating, but when I pull over, I can easily put my bare hand on the valve cover and the exhaust heat shield.

One time the coolant actually unfroze on the way to school, and the temp needle went from overheating to normal op. temp., but I still had no heat, thats why I was asking. But I guess it needed time because when I come out from school my heat works fine.

I know, , I need add some antifreeze or something because the block/hoses/heater core/rad can crack/expand and thats no good

Not to mention the feezing point is a lot lower. I really like the honda blue. Its premixed and last time I checked like $13 something.

Make it priority, you're playing with fire, especially if you count on this car everyday.
