Help Electrical Problem with my EX !!!!

OK guys I have never experienced this type of problem before. I had just got done driving a medium distance trip of about 80 miles one way. The whole time the car ran perfectly, untill i get into the city and im finding a place to park the damn Battery light comes on!!! All the lights start to get really bright!! My fucking temperature guage starts going up towards red, but never touches it. I dont know WTF is going on, i come to a stop and all of a sudden the batt light goes off and all is back to normal, including temp guage goes back to normal?? OK, so i keep driving a bit more and then after I get back up to about 35mph the light goes on again!! Again brighter lights allaround and temp guage starts going up. I think its the alternator's built in regulator or something. Could it be the ELD electrical load detector not regulating the voltage anymore or what?

MOst importantly can i drive back 80miles without the car catching on fire or what have you? I cannot get my car fixed where im at so i really need to be able to drive back to my house where all my tools are and my parts CB7 with all the parts I need. Please help anyone.

this happened to my friends car and he took it to a shop and they just put a new battery in it. sounds funny but when the battery is bad some strange things can happen. smoke came through the vents too just because of the battery. try that or something like that idk.

        first check the graunds.
then when the battery light comes on just go and disconect the battery. see if the car turns off. if yes then u need a new altenator. if no then check all the graunds etc.

UPDATE i went to check on my car. Checked all the grounds, that were visable and checked the connections to teh alternator, checked all the fuses etc. Started right up now the Battery light is staying on and the ABS light is on!! WTF why is the ABS light now on and it wasnt before, i guess it is directly related to the voltage problem? I just bought this piece of shit too

abs light is nothing, mine comes on 50% of the time that i drive my car. dont worry bout that. as for the battery or alt. ive got no clue.

Update, swapped the alternator with my wrecked/spair CB7's alternator and BAMN!! we have power!!!!!. Damn that really sucked, i can see why now that mechanics charge about $60 an hour to replace those things. no more ABS light either

i should look into that cause my abs comes on a lot. would a bad alternator make lights flicker and rpms go down while running other things?

                    ENGLISH please?!

-->>93accordexcoupe, Im not sure but if your idling then the alternator makes less power then when your rpms are higher. So if you have, lets say your lights on, your radio on, you have an aftermarket system, AC is on, your pressing the brake, etc. Then that is quite a drain on the system, even more so when your sitting there idling. It should be much less evident once you start moving, ie rpms above 1K or so. But if your lights still flicker or are unusualy dim when your driving, then you might have a weak alternator, that may be getting ready to go out. Also if you have a powerful amp(S) then when the bass hits your lights will also dim considerably because thats a Huge drain on the system, also can lead to premature failure of the alternator and battery. Good luck with that ABS light, also check all your grounds, thats the first thing you should look for.

Damn I guess my alternator is taking a crap. Everytime my system hits the headlights, dash lights, clock, etc. flicker. At first it would only do this when I was idling. Within the past month its started to do it even when I'm driving. And now I notice the lights start to dim when I'm at a light. And as soon as I start driving the brighten up.

The funny thing is that it always starts right up everytime I turn the ignition.

Most shops will test your alternator for free, right?

Yes, most shops test alternators for free.

Just because your lights dim does not mean that your alternator is taking a shit. All it means is that your amp is not able to produce enough energy to run your whole car w/electronics and support the bass hits. What you want to do is either get a high output alternator, or go and buy a capicator. The capicator is the cheaper, and better way to go in my opinion. The cap will enhance the performance of your car by providing electric current at a very quick rate if you're throwing to higher rpms quickly, and it will get rid of the lights dimming. There are actualy companies that sell products by the name of voltage stabalizers or soemthing like that, that are just small capicators. If you get an audio one, it will do the same thing, and more. Make sure you get atleast a 1 fared capicator though. All you have to do is go to your amp, cut the power wires close to the amp, and wire the cap up to the power wires. It's very simple and it will make a difference.

Hmmm, sounds like a good shot.

What I don't understand is why its gradually gotten worse over time. It never used to be as bad as it is now. I can have everything off just driving with my system on and I can see the dash clock flickering to the beat. It never was that bad before.Of course it gets really bad when I have the headlights, heater and rear defroster on. But I've had the lights on and heater with the system turned down and I can see the dash lights get dim until I step on the gas.

                          Who knows.
