    5w20 or 5w30 in H22A?

Okay i've come to a crossroads. I've only done two oil changes so far since I got my H22, ran Castrol GTX for 1000 miles to break it in and then Royal Purp. for 3000....now I'm due for an oil change.

What I'm wondering is, If I use 5w20 Lucas Full Synthetic, will that harm the engine in any way? I know MPG will prob. go up, but I'm also considering long term affects and wear. Should I just stick with the 5w30? or try this 5w20 out and see? I got this Lucas Oil from my friend for cheap, and he's got lots of it so thats why I ask.

What exactly did you "break in" on your "low mileage" engine? There's nothing to "break in" on motors with miles on them, no matter how long they've been sitting. All the necessary parts that needed to be broken in were broken in the first 1k miles of the engines life. All you're doing is wasting oil and money.

    Just use 5/30.

People over complicate this oil thing wayyy too much.

well i had the head taken off and 2 worn valve guides replaced along with all the valve stem seals done since it was off at the time. but is there anything wrong with using 5w20 since I have it already? what about long term usage of it? any detrimental effects?

        check out a prelude FSM

do you think the tolerances in your motor are so close you need 5-30? maybe

idk, I kinda just wanted to do it for better fuel economy. I just drove a tankful VERY easy, hit VTEC maybe once a day drove 65-70 on the highway keeping the RPMs at 3k at those speeds and it still only gave me about 300-315 for this tank. I just recently hooked up my EGR too, hoping that would net me something, but its still the same regardless if I drive it hard or easy.
All the wires/plugs/cap/rotor/coil everything was recently done as well w/ no good results. idk how people get mileage in the 30s w/ H22s.

remeber even though you want the thinnest oil you dont want one that will shear and cause metal to metal contact.

even if its for that split second

you serious only 310-320 miles for the full tank...... I get 400-410 on my h22 with mods (I,H,E) using the p13 and h22 tranny.

The oil you use really depends on where you live..... but using lower viscosity increases engine wear.
either kill it or drift it...

The Prelude Factory Service Manual says you should be running 10W-30 in the summer time, and 5W-30 in the winter. With full synthetic, you could probably get away with 5W-30 in both seasons, but I would be hesitant with 5W-20.

Just use 5w-30...I know the 4th gen prelude. 10w-30 was recommened, but in the 5th gen, 5w-30 is recommened. Just go with a good 30w oil and you can even go 0 if you want. I do that in the winter...
                    Yeah, Preludes

well the other thing is, i've got the H22 Auto tranny, so that kinda hurts things but i didn't think it would THAT much. I have yet to do just a straight highway tank yet, so it could get better slightly.

I guess I'll return that 5w20 and just stick with 5w30 RP. Thanks for all your advice guys.

he's just got tons of it. Like an entire case of it that he's not using. I figured they make good lubricants, so their oil has to be worthy right? I got like 6 quarts from him for like 15 bucks.
