Check the charge status of your battery. If it is low for any reason then your gauges/radio would work when you turned the key to 'on' but you might not have enough to crank it over. You should have 12 volts. Make sure the terminals are tight and clean (no corrosion).

Since you were working on the tranny, the second thing to check is the wires going to the starter. Make sure they are tight and have good contact with the starter. Make sure the starter bolts are tight enough and clean (again, no corrosion). Also try giving the starter a few whacks with a hammer (they can stick). Use a multi meter to see how many volts you have at the starter.

Get a socket and ratchet on the crank bolt and make sure the motor isnt locked up from binding.

There are only 2 electrical cable/wire that is connected on the starter. One being held by a 12m hex head nut and one is a female spade connector.

the starter is conected correctly. as for the motor being lock up or binding . i put the wheels back on and droped . put it in gear and pushed it . it rolled . if it was locked up . would it roll in gear . . tried again this morning . when i tried to start it . it gave me 1 click ,and 1 very small puff of smoke . that is an ground . rite .
