How hard are balljoints to replace?

I mean all the front ones, upper and lower on both sides. I have this clicking / cracking noise in right hand turns in 2nd gear, and I got a couple of balljoints that are lookin' pretty rough (cracked boots) How much of a bitch is this gonna be for me to do in my garage with the car up on blocks? I've got good tools, and a nack for mechanical stuff, but stuff like this kinda scares me.

It's a 90 accord, lx, 5 speed if that matters.

Also: both axles are reman. less than 2 mos. old. It's NOT them clicking.

Upper ball joints are easy to replace (replacing the entire control arm), for my lower ball joints, my mechanic had the ball joint pressed out and had new bushings pressed in. I think they needed to get new bushings for my swar bar as well. I believe the upper ball joints are a peice of cake compared to the lower ones.

If an impact gun can't get the nut off, a last resort would be cutting the nut off. Just make sure you don't grind the knuckle all over the place while you're doing it. Since you're going to throw it out anyways, use a pickle fork and bash away until the balljoint pops out.

some say that you can replace the upper ball joints w/o buying a whole brand new UCA. they say there is a c-clip of some sort, but i have never tried that method.

lower ball joints will need to me pressed out, and the new one pressed in. if you dont have air tools, i would suggest taking the spindle to a shop and let them do it

You can purchase a ball joint press(it's like an oversized C clamp with the proper pressing attachments) at Autozone or ne other auto store and use a 1/2 inch drive ratchet with the right socket to press it out. Its not that bad.

Lower balljoints bang out with a hammer. Thats how I got mine done. Worked great. Nothings better then having superb suspention. I cant wait to get my next accord <3

I have replaced any/all the joints in these Accords since we now have 4 of them. Anyways, to remove the lower-front joints I remove the knuckle out of the car (requires removing brake assembly and separating the 3 joints). To make it easier, I remove the brake rotor shield with impact driver on them screws. I use a vise and if you can find the right size steel tubing, steel plates, etc you can press the new ones in using this method. To remove it, you can bang them joints out with hammer and correct size steel tubing with knuckle in a vise. I just replaced ALL joints front & rear on my 91 EX. Full poly bushing front end and poly bushings on Progress rear sway bar in rear etc....it rides

crackin an popping noise in ur left, right hand turns ...is usually a sign of a worn differential in ur transmission...other things could be ur ball joints.or possibly a cv axle about to go...

I used a hammer too. If the lower ball joint don't come off, use the hammer on the spindle part to loosen the ball joint then tap the bottom thread and it should come right off. Easy.

Couldn't of been done without you guys

The upper arm balljoints are like the rear upper balljoints. You need to take the boot off, use a snap ring tool and take off the C clip and it'll bang out. Only problem is, they don't sell the front upper balljoint by itself. I have no idea why but mybe it's just a way to make more money selling it with the arms. I had spare 4th gen Prelude arms so I tried using the balljoints from that. It was identical except where the C clip goes is a bit lower than the 4th gen Accord (it would be too loose using it as is) so I shimmed it between the c lip and arm and works fine. If you know a good parts guy that can spend time with you, you might be able to find an identical match off the shelf. Who knows, maybe even the rear balljoint will fit the front (never had the chance to try it).
