I want to put an intermediate shaft in but which axle for Auto H22?

I finally got an intermediate shaft for my H22, but I'm just curious if anyone's ever swapped one in for with an Automatic trans. So would it still be the same as a 5spd axle for the D/S? So in my case, I've got ABS, would I need a 5spd ABS D/S axle? or do you think I'd need a custom one made? I'm really sick of having that long (almost 4ft) axle on the driverside, I already snapped it once like a month after getting my H22 swapped in so that was on the list of things to get taken care of.

Something was wrong with your previous axle, A stock h22 does not just snap axles.

you can NOT use an intermediate shaft with an automatic.

so i have to stick with the ultra long one? Why on earth did honda do that? I know newer 5th gens have intermediate shafts right for some of the autos?

well i guess you could, since yeah the bolt holes are there...

what i really meant was that you cant use a regular 5spd one (plus axle) like the OP was asking about. i assumed this is what he had because he just "got one" from somewhere. it wont work, unless you make a custom one, or custom mount it, or whatever, but then no regular axle will fit. either way either the intermediate shaft OR the axle will end up having to be custom...

yeah i was just wondering because my H22 has holes for an intermediate shaft which aren't being used right now. But can the shaft physically fit into the Auto trans fine? then I'll just have to worry about having a D/S axle fit. There are places that make them right?

the splined end SHOULD fit, but the shaft will be too long and itll throw off the alignment of the bolts, so youll have to modify that. then youll need a custom shorter DS axle.

You should have taken the axle off and just looked at it to see what needs to be done. And speaking off snapping axles....my stock h22a used to snap frame mounts....go figure!

i was just goofing around with this in the driveway. i'm in the midst of a 96 accord sir swap into my CB9. i took the std. axle and shaft and mocked it up. the holes line up but a 1/2 or more gap to the block. it is possible to make a plate and use longer dowel bolts. but if everything ain''t perfect you will side load the diff and hurt the trans. i left it alone and installed the auto axle, another day when or if it breaks i'll mess around with it.

yeah i figured out it won't work. You'd prob. need a diff. sized intermediate shaft or a custom one at that. But I'm 5spd now so its all good.
