    solved burning oil problem

A while back i posted about a problem that i had with my F22A6. It was consuming oil at a pretty high rate and had no idea where it was going since there were no leaks or blue smoke. I talked to my mechanic (good and honest guy) and what we came up with is that i have bad rings on my pistons Since im running on mobil1 syntec the oil is very thin and it is leaks more easily. The burned oil however did come out thru my exhaust but i did not see it b/c synthetic does not smoke. This is a trick some dealers use when they sell a used car that smokes. The engine runs great but it does have about 208,XXX miles on it so it makes no sense to replace the rings. Looks like im going to start to save up for a H22 engine/tranny swap In order to reduce the oil consumption im ditching the syntec since its a waste of money unless you have a new tight engine. My mechanic told me to use thicker oil (20-50) and instead of the last quart add a quart of the lucas oil additive. He had the same problem in his other car and doing that reduced his oil consumption by about 60%

You could make the oil as thick as peanut better and yeah, it wouldn't leak as much, but it's a lot harder on your motor. You'll really run into problem trying to crank it over this winter, especially on an old engine that already has problems.

I am switching to 0w-30 into my honda. I talked to an oil expert that lives in canada and he runs it in his wife's civic year round and the oil anaylsis results on the car were really good.

My car burns a whole tank of oil almost every 3 monthes, in fact even less. Could it be piston rings? Can i change them myself?

yeah just get the rings and bearing or tie rods and the seals and u good to go. u can do this while the block is in the car but that is a bitch to be done. or u can get the car off commising and take the engine off and replace the rings.

or me and u go on a shoping trip by our favorite place. find a accord with low miles and we do a replace ur old engine....
                lol let me know.
