Tie Rod gone?

How do you know if your tie rods are gone? My moms boyfriend wanted me to show him the car and how its all fucked when you brake.. So we went for a drive and he said he thinks its NOT warped rotors and thats its the tierod's...


He might just be right. I moved te wheel back and forth and theres a little play in it.


How do you know if they are gone? Or needs replacement. Please let me know!

my steering wheels shakes at highway speeds, but thats because i havent changed my rotors in 2+ years. or pads for that matter. but when this happend with my coupe i replaced the rotors and the vibration was gone. but not only do i have vibration in the wheel, my steering wheel also needs to be turned to the left a bit to go straight. it didnt do this when i bought the car, if i hold the wheel straight the car go's to the right. but i think i fucked up my alignment running one donut for awhile and having used junkayrd front tires. but yea resurface or replace your rotors.

But how do you know if your tie rods need replacing?

To check your tie rod ends, grab it, try to move it, if there is any play(other than the normal movement of the joint)it is bad. The tie rod ends are basiclly balljoints. If there is a rip in your rubber boot it will go bad, if it has not already. I just replaced both of mine. My steering wheel would shake pretty bad at certain speeds and was really wearing down my tires. Only one end was bad, but I replaced both because both boots were ripped. Good as new.
