actually i believe that thing turns over every 7,500 miles.....but dont worry man, nothing is wrong with your car if it comes on...when mine first turned to red i got so scared, i thought my car was screwed, but then i did some research and found out its just a reminder thing...woo was i happy

i personally just ignore that since i maintain my own car. Like i've tried to relay to many, make a simple Excel spreadsheet with column names like:
date
current mileage
what was done
next check mileage
then you will not have to rely on anything for when things need to be maintained, just look at the sheet which you can keep in your glovebox and updated by hand, then later back it up on your computer by typing it up (which helps when you're looking up maintenance parts online & need to know when some part was replaced last, etc).
believe me it helps out alot, especially if you have more then one car you have to maintain...like five (family cars).

the purpose of the maintenance required light is to let you know when it's time for a honda scheduled maintenance. as 91accordlx previously stated, it comes on at scheduled intervals (as the scheduled maintenances are at scheduled intervals)- it seems to be around 7500 miles or so.
absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.
