    H22 auto hell

Alright guys, I don't have a whole lot of internet time today at work so my searching is kinda limited, I figure it easier to start this and check it when I get the little freetime I'll have.

So heres the dealeo, lately my transmission has been acting up.

The car has been limited to 1st and 3rd, if you put it into D4 it would stay in 3rd, atleast until you dropped it manually into 1st. You could manually choose between each of em. After a little driving, it would free itself up and shift automatically between all 4 gears.

We took the two sets of solenoids off the front of the trans and gave em a good cleaning. Now the trans is limited to 2nd and 4th making taking off a hassle and dangerous in traffic.. It did however cure up the hard shifting when going into reverse and forward gears. It was hard clunking before, now it's smooth as can be..

I looked around the JY for an extra TCM, no avail yet.. Anyone have any ideas?

Oh and here's where my searching went dry, I have a manual trans gauge cluster, blinking D/S lights, not there for me to see.

Any help is appreciated, even links to useful threads are fine, I just dont have much time today.. Thanks guys.

Sounds like the TCU is gone. Try an Accord TCU if you cant find an H22 TCU.

Well, I was hoping to uncover something wrong with the TCU since you suggested it, what do ya know, I found a problem! The car is already running an accord TCU, I wish I had h22 shiftpoints.

Anyways, here are some pictures of the damage and repair. I took it for a short test drive and it went back to being stuck in 1st and 3rd for a few minutes and then it snapped out of it and stayed fine the rest of the drive, hoefully the test drive today will prove a success and the issues are gone.

As you can see, I went ahead and replaced both resistors in an attempt to save buying a new tcu when I have plans to switch to a 5spd very soon. It's an effort to prolong this ones life.. Experimental at best. After cleaning up the board a bit, there was no visual sign of the motherboard being damaged. All the traces are still intact and no points lifted..

After starting her up today and taking off, the car was again stuck in 1st and 3rd(better than 2nd and 4th), I noticed that I still had the paperclip in the CEL jumper from last night, so I pulled over less than 1/8th mile from the house.. I shut the car down, removed the clip and started her back up. Bam, she's working again, shifting as normal throughout all the gears. I drove for about 30minutes and she acted fine the entire time.

The ride lastnight was very similar, the shutoff/turnon being replaced with less than 5 minutes of driving it..

I'm not really sure how to take the results yet, this is exactly how this all began so I think something else is actually causing this resistor to burn up, time will tell for sure..

Any thoughts on this are more than welcome, like I said, this is just to try and save money so I can get the rest of my 5spd parts instead of new tcus.

This thing is a sad pos, the previous owner no doubt beat the living shit out of this tranny manually shifting it since the WOT redline on this TCU is 6200.

It's gone back to shifting extremely hard, and being stuck in 1st and 3rd for the first little bit of each drive. Only comes out of 3rd if you manually shift to 1st.

I hope to have everything I need to get the 5spd in within the month. No more effort on autogarbage. Thanks for all the suggestions guys!
