how hard is p/s-less steering supposed to be?

Not to support ford, but their system is much better then the honda one. Every honda I've ever owned the ps system went out. Ford's hasn't, ever. Ford's system operates at a lower pressure, the whine is just because the pump actually has some nuts to it.

Every pump I've worked on that whines like that is because someone ran it dry or with the wrong fluid, not because it is "tough". It's the sound of a damaged/worn pump. Honda's p/s system may have higher tolerances but they are pretty smooth and work very well. Most fords I've owned have had the pump rebuilt/replaced many times. My current pump...has been run low and with the wrong fluid...it doesn't whine and still pumps like new.

I have no p/s and its easier than those who just plug it in. I modded mine to where I have a breather to relieve some of the pressure and a reservoir for fluid. It feels really really good. It's a mod that professionals do =).

Then you did your correctly it sounds like...If you're gonna do it I wish more folks would learn to do it right like that.
