    Removing/Unplugging oxygen sensor

Hi, i know this may sound weird but anyway...

I'm in the process of replacing the header and the downpipe on my cb and the oxygen sensor is in working condition so i dont wanna trash it.

But i can't unplug the wire of the oxygen sensor!!! The oxygen sensor, that is located before the flexible on the downpipe is stuck and i cant unbolt it with a key.. What could i do??? Has somebody got problems unplugging the connector of that sensor???

    I need help please.

    Thanks everyone.

    Sam.

Go for a good drive, and really flog it. Get that exhaust hot enough and you should be able to thread it out by hand lol, if you could hold onto it.

But in all seriousness, get the car nice and warm, just dont burn yourself when you are under there. When the exhaust gets hot, it expands, and that hole the sensor is plugged into actually gets a bit bigger.

Trust me, I've done it. That bugger wouldnt budge. Took it for a drive, and she came right out!
        RIP

Thanks and what about unplugging the wire???

Also would it gain heat enough just to make it idle cause i dont wanna mess with the ramps, its difficult to get on them...

It'll warm up at idle. Just not as much as a good rip. But typical warm up should be fine, make sure you open the garage door though. C0 poisoning ftl.

I dont remember having trouble unplugging the sensor. It may be easier to figure out once you have it loose.

Ok, i'll try letting the car gain in heat and try to remove the o2 sensor with a key and maybie just not unplug it.

Cause i've messed on that wire for 2 hour to unplug it and it wont even unplug a little. And i wont forget to open the garage door.

youre using an O2-specific tool right? with what sort of leverage, a ratchet, or a breaker bar? O2 are one of those certain bolts that usually require tons of torque to get it broken loose. the key is getting enough leverage, get a nice long tool handle! yes heat will help but you dont want to burn yourself working down there....

also i have found that the way to get the O2 plug separated is to actually unhook the plug (still connected) from its metal bracket, and THEN separate the two halves from each other. it should come apart much easier then, if you try to pull the one half free while its still attached to the engine bracket, itll never come off. regardless though, you dont technically need to unplug it to change headers, but unscrewing it from the header gets messy as the wire starts to twist up. so yeah good luck lol

Haha thanks. But no i dont have the special tool, i just use a long 21mm or 22mm (i think) key to unscrew it from the downpipe. As for the plug i cant even pull it off the bracket. I'll try an other time tomorrow....

yeah first remove it from that flexible metal bracket, then try unplugging it, I think that bracket actually prevents it from coming apart.

It might also be stuck together w/ sludge from all the grease, if your engine bay is kinda dirty. But yeah, just try prying w/ a very small jewelers screwdrivers if that doesn't help.

Last time I had a problem with mine, my friend (who is HUGE) got ahold of it and broke it loose without a damn problem while I was sitting there with the header on the car with my big ass closed in wrench straining my bloody guts out. OR go to advance auto and rent that O2 sensor socket set and the get yourself a leverage pipe. My idea of leverage is getting a semi long extension and a 19mm then putting it on the end of my ratchet.

Haha you got lucky!!! Well i've tryed everything i could to get the wires unpluged and the o2 sensor unscrewed but it has been impossible for me... I've passed at least 2 hours yesterday and 2 more hours this morning fucking on this o2 sensor but i couldnt do anything.. So i'll go to a shop hoping they'll get it done right...

Thanks for everybody who helped me i'm sure some peoples will use those tricks u gave to me to get their job done.

I would've probably unscrew the o2 sensor easilly by taking the down pipe out of under the car...
