    Ignition issues

I've been noticing my car cutting out at times. My oil seal for my distributor needs replaced, so I assumed that was causing it. Today, the car has no spark. and after taking the cap of the distributor, the small amount of oil(not anywhere around the cap/rotor) makes me believe its my ignition control module...again. I'm on my 3rd ignition control module from autozone. Wondering what could cause my ICMs to go out so fast, this will be the 4th in about 6 months.

its a external coil setup, which part of the mount is broken, coil is supposed to be mounted(bolted) in 2 places, the metal on one tab is broken, so I only have 1 functional mount. The coil is not loose, the 1 bolt holds it on pretty good. Dont know if the coil is supposed to have a certain amount of ground and maybe its not getting enough, causing my ICM's to go out.

Thats not my thread, and has nothing to with my issues, other than his control module needed replaced. I know mine needs replaced...again. Im askin what could cause them to go out so often.

Hey man, I assume you're getting voltage to both ICM and the coil. The ICM is essentially just a switch toggled and controlled by the ecm. Yet you're getting no spark, still. Have you tested it with a voltmeter? test the battery alone, then ICM on the 2-pin connector connected to the coil. It should read around 12V, same as the battery.

        life is good.

Pony up for a Honda ICM. The cheap ones (Autozone, kragen, etc) always die after 6 months, just like the Bosch O2 sensors.

I would get a honda ICM but cant afford it ATM, and the one I have is lifetime warranty, still a pain that it goes out so often.

Well, I guess I got ahead of myself, I was so sure it was my ICM, that I didnt bother doing any test's. Installed the new ICM to no prevail, so I tested my coil, and i believe its bad. I get no reading(ohms) when testing the output, and the other reading are way low.

Well, whoever told me that its my distributor was the issue, was right, I think. I replaced my coil with one from a j/u, it tested good, and that did nothing. So I decided to test my old coil, again, out of the vehicle, and this time it passed. I must have screwed up somehow. So I tested the Crank,TDC, and stuff as listed in the haynes manual, and I got a little bit of continuity from my distributor to the ground, for a quick second anyways. The Crank,TDC and that stuff tested good. So, as long as I did this test correctly, I'm in need of a new distributor. If anyone's got a decent one, and is willing to get rid of it for fairly cheap( reman is around 75 shipped on ebay) send me a PM.

Ok just curious as to what others think. Want some opinions before I pony up the cash for a distibutor. I get voltage to the coil, and the ICM. If you read my above post's you'll see that my distributor seal is bad, leaks oil into the dizzy, just a lil bit. Have replaced the coil and ICM, because I believed that was the issue. I believe my main relay is working, Im pretty certain I hear the fuel pump(hard to tell when Im in the front seat, and all cars dingin when I turn the key on)

Before issue the car has been cutting out a lil at WOT above 3.5k, tach jumped around(which led me to the ICM). Didnt go anywhere for a couple days, and when I went to fire it up I got no spark. Sorry for jumping around like this.

ok, well Its obvious that I am lacking the necesary skills with a voltmeter, or maybe the fact that mine is a cheapo. But either way, I have no fuel pump either. So that points to the main relay correct?

Im havin a hard time getting to it, or even seeing it because of all the wires for the alarm. all fuses are good, so could it be anything else besides the main relay? just hoping for some input before I start pulling wires out to get to it to test it. I know where its at, just have to undo my alarm to get to it.

I'm glad you got it figured out. To be honest, I was a little stumped, that's why I wasn't replying anymore.

After my experiences with Bosch O2s, I'm pretty leery of anything Bosch anymore. They are last resort fixes for me now.

agreed, I took pics of the plugs, cant think of the word that describes them. but I'll post pics of them here soon, it should be stickied as to why not to use Bosch plugs. But I am still amazed, and very confused how they all can fail, at the same time, overnight. lol.
But right after I fixed mine, my brother in law broke down, turned out to be the spring on his (internal)coil.
