Odd noise & vibration while driving...

With the original wheels on my car, it drove smooth as a Cadillac.

The tires were bald and the rims were beat up, so at the wreckers I managed to pick up a set of EXR rims with good tires. I have since put those wheels on my car and all of a sudden at low speeds it makes a low whoompa whoompa whoompa noise, and when you speed up, the steering wheel starts to vibrate REALLY bad.

I no longer have my original wheels to put back on the car to see if it makes a difference.

I switched the front tires to the rear and vice versa, and still seems to be doing it. Bent rim? Unbalanced tire? Something in the suspension?

It almost feels like a wheel is going to fall off at 70mph when the steering wheel is shaking so bad.

It's odd. Car drives just fine other than the vibrationand weird noise

Definitely balance, but before you do check your tires over really well. Look for bald spots, bubbles, cracks, separations.

I hit a deer when I had my Accord, but it was after skidding about 30 feet. After that, until I replaced the tires, I had a similar kinda problem, although it wasn't really that bad. I think that when I skidded I might have shifted the belts in the tire around some and they were just off for the rest of their lives. I think that if you can unmount the tires and put them on the other side (so the rotation is different) they can sometimes adjust back in that situation.

If you have separations where the tread is pulling apart get new tires soon..

Yeah, I did notice some cracks between the treads on 2 tires, but they aren't terrible. These wheels are temporary, but I'll try and find some other tires.

Just strange, cuz I've never felt this kind of vibration or noise before and I've owned almost 30 cars.

I put my old wheels on today and no odd noises or vibrations.

One of the tires or rims on the EXR set has got to be messed up somehow.

Are they the same size (ie, 15 inch)? You should try mounting the old tires on the newer rims and see if it goes away.

check to see if you have weights on the exr wheels. and
also, maybe one of them is bent, and hard to see...
