    ATX question

Just curious. I'm not a fan of automatics and hope to have a 5 speed swap complete before the end of the summer.

I'm wondering right now though, am I doing any harm to my automatic if I'm running it up and down through the gears like a manual?

Say for instance I'm at a red light and I'll have it in 1st, and take off, shift to 2nd gear around 4000rpm, then shift into 3rd, and then into 4th and cruise along. Then as I slow down, shift from 4th to 3rd, continue slowing down near a stop, into 2nd gear with a bit of engine/tranny braking and come to a stop in 1st and start all over.

I'm pretty easy on my car, I don't thrash it very often. Just wondering if I can be causing any premature wear on any of the transmission components by doing this? I know it's kind of a dumb question, but hey, you don't get answers if you don't ask.

lol probably at a minimum, nothing more than normal wear and tear. most people i know with autos do the same thing and i havent seen any ill consequences from it....shit man i wana go manual to auto swap.

Is it good? Not necessarily. It's probably something you shouldnt do ALL the time. occassionally is ok, but if you're doing it at every light or stop, you may be damaging your tranny.

Occassionally, i'll have mine in D3. I'll put it in 2 if i need to come to a quick stop, it's snowing real bad or im wanting to be loud and show-off.

My car has only been in 1, once. And it was foggy as hell and there was easily 4+ inches of ice and snow on the ground and i was comfortable going 10mph.

The lower gears are mainly for uphill/downhill use or for towing.

Once the auto comes out for the 5 speed swap, its just going to the junk yard anyways

maybe i did, maybe the fact that you bought an automatic, and are still shifting it like a manual defeats the purpose of it.

should've bought an standard if you wanted to shift, not buy an automatic with the intent of swapping it to five speed.

if you don't care about this auto trans. why do you care if this is bad for it or not? if you don't drive like a douche which i'm going to guess you don't... why is there a need to shift it manually? personally i think its all in your head that its smoother.. an automatic shifts the same regardless when the TCU makes it shift or if you shift it into another gear. obviously different RPM ranges, fluid condition, trans condition, fluid type, temperature and all these other factors will influence it.

i say you neutral drop the fucker and 5 speed swap it tonight. do it. i dare you.

Granny shiftin not double clutching like you should.....

Plain and simple my Canadian friend to the north and west...you'll fry the discs within that automatic if you shift it like that.

There's the kind of technical answer I'm looking for. Thank you.

First of all, I never set out to buy an Accord or a Honda in the first place. My old car died and I was in a jam to buy a car before the next work week, and I came across the Accord in the right condition for the right price. Didn't think I'd keep it long cuz it was a Honda and I never was a Honda fan....then I started driving it and I just fell in love with it. Found out that SE's came with automatics only. Put the car up for sale a couple times and negotiated some trades with other Accords, but mine is too clean and rare to get rid of just for one with a stick. So why not do the logical thing and keep the better car and build it how I want it?
