shifter problems

the car is a 91 automatic, swapped w esp 5speed mount only, shifter, and cables are from a 92
the problem is the shifter in its original position wont reach the cables very good

i have to pull the neutral cable and the shifter, put the trans in 3, when i hook up the shifter, it looks like first gear, so in the shifter if i try to shift 3rd or 5th, it wont let me

i tried shitings the cables by hand and it goes through all gears except reverse
have any of you'all ever encounter this?

by n e chance do u have a haynes manual,
i dont have mine right now, but it has measurments
of wat distance theres suspposed to b...

they prob need to be adjusted,
try removing the console and they may need to be
unscrewed or screwed n a lil bit,
then re-attatch them to the shifter and c if u can get it n reverse...
