I normally use 5-20. Any recommendations on what others I could use to slow the oil burning a bit? and no, i don't wanna use engine oil additives like motor honey. TIA

5w20? You should be using 5w30.
Change your pcv valve, those not changed can lead to some oil burning issues.
Dont use any semi sythetic. What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.
You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

lower the number the thinner correct
i always ran 10w30. cold or hot.
by the time you run your car for a few miles it will thin on its own. imo i stick with 10w30 for that reason. maybe i am totally wrong

So would you recommend running synthetic or no on a higher milage engine?

There is only one thing you can do, fix the cause of the burning. A thicker oil is not the solution, it will cause more problems than it solves...but it will not solve any problem no matter. Use the viscosity that is recommended for your engine in your region.
Why do people think running thicker oil is a "solution" for burning/leaking oil? It never is.

regular lasts 5000 at most
synthetics protect better and flow better...synthetics are best on any engine no matter mileage. Even if I was burning a lot of oil I would use synthetic because you are burning oil and dropping your oil level as a result, synthetic oil will hold up better at higher temps and in the conditions that result from burning oil.
