Any big gains from removing cat?

I have a hole in my flex pipe, and im going to get it fixed soon. I am gonna buy a new flex pipe, and im wondering what i would need. Only the pipe? or are there screws, gaskets, etc. that i would need. And would any welding have to be done, or could i just bolt it in. Another thing im contemplating is removing my catalytic converter and replacing it with a straight pipe that could be bolted on and off, so i can switch back in the cat when inspection time comes. I am wondering if there are any big gains from switching the cat with a straight pipe? My friend did this, and he said he notices a slight gain in hp as a result. thanks.

i think the make headers that bolt right to the cat. ??? not really sure tho, but that would be better, to get headers and just bolt it to the cat. some one correct me if im wrong

the pipe was priced at $60. Ebay headers are good? i heard that if headers arent made correctly, and to specific measurements, it would actually degrade engine performance. Would headers be hard to install? If i could find one that would connect to the cat, that would be nice.

Dont waste money on ebay header.

Why do people insist on calling them headerS?

also, just save your money. removing the cat wont help much unless you are pushing a big amount of power.

alright, so ill just buy the flex pipe and get it fixed. Cuz at high rpm's, i could hear the whistling as exhaust escapes through the leak.

              EDIT
Are there any negative aspects of running a car with a single leak through the flex pipe? Would it really be that bad to just leave it as it is?

Agreed. Dont buy a knockoff header when you can get the bottom part of your header that includes the flex pipe for $60. Removing the cat and putting a bolt on "test pipe" does nothing unless your running a high hp set up already. If your car is stock or just has i/h/e bolted on, its a waste of money for a test pipe also.

People call "header" "headerS" because the 4 cylinder scene has only become popular within the past 10 years or so, where as muscle cars, which do infact have headerS, have been around for over 60 years. No biggie.

                EDIT:

Over time that hole in your flex pipe will get bigger and louder, so if you didnt have the money to replace it, you could stand to put up with that noise fra while, but it will get worse the longer it is neglected.

removal or hollowing out of the cat is a waste of time. I did that with my gray accord. shortly after i did it, i noticed it made no difference and then wished i had it back becasue the exaust smelled like ASS. Now i have the cat from the silver car intact, awaiting an EX manifold and flexpipe, and a world sport exaust. federal refund here i comeeeeeeeeeeeee

It would take away backpressure, which you want for the low-end torque. It will increase high-end HP, but unless you track your car all day, I don't think you'd want to do it, unless you have a turbo installed...

where you been, is something wrong?

if you know someone that can weld, i have the flexpipe part off my dc header. it had the same flange as a stock exhaust, so if you cut and weld at the right spot... itll bolt right up.

hmm, where are you located? That would fit right onto my old one? Wat are you asking? I just need to ask, are there any negative aspects, performance-wise, of having a hole in my flex pipe? The hole has gotten bigger, and pretty much all my exhaust escapes prematurely. thanks.

note: dam, my exhaust now sounds like one of those huge 4" tip ricer exhausts. When i drive, i notice ppl looking at me b/c of dat dam ting. I hope i dont get a ticket for it.
