    Oil Light Flashing

Hey guys, I'm having a problem, I just finished my car, got the crank back in, main and rod bearings, new oil pressure sending switch, but yet my oil light starts flashing after about an hour running, when I stop at a light, the oil light stays on but not not too bright, just barely lit. no I dont know if it's the sending swith that's maybe defective or there really is bad lubrication.

I did measure the gap at the three points in the oil pump and all were within spec, "ALMOST PERFECT" and primed the pump before reinstalling it. I'm worried that maybe the pressure is really low and that my engine might break down again. Please help...Thanks in advance...

I just finished putting in a new crank, main & rod bearings because of that, mine spun out the rod bearing on piston 1, and I dont want to go through this again.

I would not drive the car anymore until you figure this out...our engines have an oil pressure switch, so the light is either on or off...or flicker...if it is dimly lit you may have a short in the light circuit somewhere. Have you connected an oil pressure gauge? What is your idle at?

i would strongly suggest what ^^said. Install a oil press gauge to know exactly what the pressure is.

I just purchased an oil pressure gauge but I can find a fitting to connect it to the engine block, the one that the gauge included doesn't fit...and I tried to get a loner gauge to test pressure but none of the the major auto parts stores have one. I'll check to see if I can find a fitting tomorrow...Thanks guys...Greatly Appreciated.

did you clean the entire motor before putting another crank in? there's still metal in the oil passages and it'll destroy the motor.

I'm gonna go ahead and check the wire to see if it broke cause I know that those wires sometimes get toasted and tend to break, i'll let u guys know the outcome...thanks again...

My dad had a good mechanic friend do some work on one of his engines...just rebuilt it, nothing beefy. Well the mechanic forgot to clean the head out before installing it and my dad ended up with metal shavings to crank action...ruined all that work.

Yes I took the whole block apart and had the machine shop clean the whole thing up.

I also took the head to the machine shop for some cleaning since I had just installed it 2 weeks before.

My wife's car just started doing this, her car for some reason likes to idle at around 600, I sped it up a little bit, but, the light still flickers. Then it starts to flash

That's exactly what mine is doing...my idle is at about 600 also and when I accelarate it a little it just flashes. But it does it after about an hour running the car if I start it cold it wont do it. Any ideas?

so did you check the wiring? what grade oil are you using? id get the same issue with my VW but everyone recommended 20w-50 so i put that in and it runs fine with no oil light. i know hondas can deal with 5w-30 since they run a tighter tolerance.

if wiring is good and oil pressure switch is good and oil grade is good, id look into rechecking the clearances of the rods and mains.

I believe when we did a new head gasket on the wife's car, we used 10-30 or 10-40 oil. I don't remember if we used synthetic or not.

Her car just started making a weird noise, I'm thinking she has a rod bearing that's taking a shit. Son of a bitch!! I noticed it gets faster when you accelerate. At first, I thought it was an exhaust leak, but, I have a feeling it's not
