    Problems with acceleration

OK guys, first of all, YES, I did search but didn't find anyone with my same problem...

Well I have a stock automatic '90 Accord LX F22A1, I had to rebuild the engine but everything was left stock, my problem has been for the past month or so. After a while driving my car suddenly stops letting me accelerate past 2500 rpm, if I try to force it by accelerating more, it starts reving from 1200 to 3000 rpms but still doesn't accelerate. If I keep the revs below 1500 rpms everything it perfect, but of course I wont be going too fast...LOL. When it first started if I turned the car off and then back on it would then work perfectly, but now that doesn't work anymore. I thought it could maybe be something with the tranny but it I put the car in neutral or park and accelerate, it wont rev past 1800 rpms, and most of the time it stalls. I also noticed that when it starts doing this, a strong smell of fuel starts coming in to the car. Please if anyone has an idea of what this could be please help.

Oh, I did eliminate the charcoal canister, but I dont think that has anything to do.

    Thanks in advance to all.

is the car throwing a CEL? strong fuel smell would indicate rich burning, maybe its a fpr or injector or resistor box problem?

          Update

OK guys, I just got to checking my CEL codes and got code 12 and 15. For what I was able to find those codes are EGR Valve-12 and Ignition Output Signal-15.

          Questions:
Can I just eliminate the EGR and what exactly would be the Ignition Output Signal?

For a CODE 15 ; In the Honda service manual it says to check both of the plugs on the distributor. Check for proper connectivity, voltage, and ground. If correct on each wire, says the ignitor is faulty or needs change. Hope it helps!

I'm not sure about just eliminating the EGR. I've never looked into that. However, a clogged EGR port could definitely give you the problem you're having. If you do some research, I'm sure you'll be able to find the process for cleaning the ports.

I agree that the ignitor being bad could also be the case. You may have a multiple issue goin on.

Exactly. I was just reading the steps on fixing a CODE 15.

Although Ive never heard EGR ports being that bad to not go over 3k RPMs, but im no mechanic.

Also looking into the Cat? Combs could be deteriorating or broken causing loss of acceleration?

First of all, thanks to all, now regarding the plugs I will perform these test on the plugs between today and tomorrow, and let you know the outcome.

For this I did see somewhere the process, if I not mistaking it included having to drill and tap the plugs to remove them and replace with new ones, I would not know if this would be how to clean them or someone knows of and different way to do so. If there is a different way please let me know.

Well I'll try all these test to see which helps and will update when I get answers...thanks again...
