    Negative effects? Removing P/S?

So i'm curious? if there any negative effects to removing the power steering. Lately i've noticed some odd sounds (especially when is cold) coming from the power steering pump and resvior and i would just love to toss it. i have searched and searched and i could not find for the life of me about what ahppens if i took the p/s out.

but yeah, I know ill have a rough time parking and turning at slow speeds. i dont mind thatfeeling anyways. drove my brothers crx before and i didnt care to notice. will there be any problems with removal that i should look into? and mre of. what needs to be taken out? obviously the pump and bracket. about bout if its alright to take out the power steering line and resovior? help me out with some tips? thanks!

I gotta warn you that a CRX is a good bit eaiser to steer then a CB7 with no power steering. this is because the steering rack in the crx was made to be a manual steering box. The CB7's was intended to be used with a PS pump.
Especially when the car is not moving. You have to get the car moving at least a little for it to be easy to turn the wheel. After a wile I got used to it and can move the wheel when the car is still. Parallel parking is still a royel PITA in tight spots though. I'm glad I don't run into those kinda spots often

I forgot to add that you should keep PS fluid in the steering rack. don't run the box dry it can damage the cb7's rack.

The best way to try it out is to simply take the PS belt off of the car. If you want to keep it like that just loop the PS line back into the reservoir.

you really don't want to do it on these cars......or any car in general that was designed without a manual steering rack. it is freakin HARD to steer and would get really old really quick....IMHO

^^^sounds like he's never even tried it. Its not bad at all and actually after about 3-5 days i started to prefer it. You can actually feel the road, PS gives u this false sense of control. Theres plenty of ppl here running without PS and thats by their own choice. If u sat in the car with me driving u probably wouldn't even notice the PS is gone. As for dead stop turns...if ur making say a left hand turn grab the underside of the steering wheel @10 o'clock position with your right hand and yank. Its MUCH easier to turn if your using the correct hand and use the hand with the most leverage.

im going to have to agree with MRX. ive driven w/o ps and i actually prefer it also. and trust me, you WILL get used to it

just keep your tires pressure up for those non-moving turns

So, which would be better? Just removing the belt all together, or getting an under drive pully for the p/s?

heh yeah im not to worried about how hard its gonna be to turn. i know ill run into harder steering. as i said i wont mind to much. plus i doubt i will have to parrallel park all to much. i dont live ina big city to worry about that. i do have a underdrive AEM pulley on the p/s and i noticed a better feel of the road. but not much. id rather get rid of it completely because i beleive the pump is gonna go in the future so id rather just save the weight, make the room for future plans, and make the car "feel" that much better!

But I was more of less asking about the problems ill run into if i take the power steering out. thanks for the info about leaving the some power steering fluid but how would i go about doing that? am i able to take off that power steering hose and where ever that goes, just cap it off and leave some power steering in there? Once it gets a lil warmer ill have a good look from underneath but i just thougt id grab some info about it all first. thanks for all the help! keep the info coming!

thats a very relative quesiton. If u want PS and a little more power get the pulley if u don't want it get rid of the PS and gain more than the pulley ever could. I didn't do it to gain power tho, i did it because i wasn't able to bolt the PS/AC bracket on correctly cause i didn't take enough out of my manifold flange. The motor was making the PS unit tilt and the belt kept sliding off so i just took it off and haven't looked back ever since.

No negative effects that i've found. I plugged the line going into the PS with the line coming out. U can just get a barbed fitting this way its just a continous system of fluid with no pressure

So, for power purposes, just remove the belt? Once again, midnight comes through!

same thing i did. But honestly it's not that bad i've been without PS for a year now. When i drive a car with it it does feel weird specially any GM with their light steering wheel

wow what a wuss... its super easy when you have 15in rims, try having 17in rims with 215s, still not hard but gives you a liltle wider tire to turn...
