manually shifting is bad because its puts more wear on the tranny. as far as i know its not mean't to be used daily like that.

however if it was bad for the transmission they wouldnt have designed it to do so

I really dont understand how it's all that bad for the tranny. They sell auto trannys now with the exact same feature. All i'm doing is telling it when to shift, as opposed to having the TCU tell it when to shift. When i got my new engine, i got the jdm tranny, but I auto shifted my old tranny all the time. It never ever had a probelm, acted up, or anything. I dont autoshift all the time, but when i'm driving 'spirited' I do. Driving around a little faster then usual, it's more fun. If I'm just crusing, not really caring about my speed, i let it shift for me. It's just nice to be taking a left hand turn, put it in first, go through the intersection, slow down to get into my lane, and then still be in first gear so i have a better gear for acceleration. I'm going to be switching to an h22 w/5speed soon anyway..

All that I notice on mine(91 SE 4D F22A6) is it shifts at about 1,000RPM's higher than with it off. I also get more "pull" in stop and go(city) driving. I like it.

lol why. if u wanna down shift(meaning accelerate faster) just push the gas pedale more lmao. but if u wanna sound cool then yeah u can do that.

nah, you seriously do get more control out of manually shifting. for instance, a few times i've raced guys from a roll.. and i'll drop my shifter into 2nd and keep it at about 4,500 rpm, so that when i stomp it - i go right into VTEC instantaneously. if i just stomped the accelerator pedal, it would have to downshift from 4th to 2nd and you get more lag. it's also more fun going through turns and just holding it at a certain rpm and coming out full speed immediately.. rather than going through the turn in 4th gear and slushing into 2nd coming out..

it just "feels" faster and is more fun in a way... i'll say that much, lol.

as far as manually shifting being BAD for the transmission.. i've never been too sure about it. its not really mentioned as being harmful in the honda/accord manuals, but then again.. it's not promoted either. its really explained as being more functional than anything else. for instance, if you had to get out of being stuck in the mud or climb a reallly steep hill.. you can downshift even lower than D3. however, i've manually shifted my old f-series auto tranny and my h22 tranny and never had any problems.. but i do it in moderation, of course.

i can't wait to swap to 5 speed, though.. that will be the best thing i ever do to my car

Word to the wise of all that shift the automatic tranny like there's no tomorrow: 1) Shifting it is not bad for the transmission in certain cases, such as going up or down a hill. But the problems will arise if you are shifting(up/down) when you are racing. The transmission wasnt made for manually shifting at high speeds like that. Not only do you increase the wear and tear on the tranny but the TCU also takes a beating believe or not.

I once had a 91 ex with the sport shift and I was constantly racing and driving it like it was a manual. Until one day TCU said its not going to work anymore. When I put it in D4, it felt like the car was starting off in 4th gear. For all you manual guys picture yourself trying to start off in 5th gear from a dead stop....YOU ARENT GOING ANYWHERE. The car felt like it had no torque, no compression, no anything. Sooner or later it would get up to speed but it would only stay in one gear. So, I tried moving off in D1 and it went along normally, so i then shifted to 2nd and I was like ok i can deal with this but then I went to go shift it into D3 and that was it. My revs dropped to like 1,000 and didnt want to come back up. So basically I only had D1, and D2 and you can only go so fast in D2 until you end up red lining. So anywhere I wanted to go, I gouldnt do more than 40mph, which really sucks when you have to use the highway!

So yea, all of you guys that say nothing will happen, think again. You will end up having the same problem as I did because I was singing the same song you guys were. And this is a common problem with the 91's with the sport shift.

yea, i'll agree with that. like i said.. the manual shift options are really for more functional purposes than speed/power. i do admit to racing by manually shifting.. but it's not very often. if done in moderation, i wouldn't think there would be a problem short term.. but for the longevity of the transmission i could see how it would be bad (or if you're constantly manually shifting).

but this is just from what i've observed from my experience.

i like to 1-2-d3-d4 my auto tranny all the time, i would say i "manually" shift about 95% of the time. you have more control like accordtunerx said, its really cool. however, its still no manual tranny. and the S light is a bunch of bull crap. all it does is burn more gas.
