MSD Blaster Coil, and Perfofmance Chip Question...

Hello, all. Once again, I have a few questions. This time, relating to a blaster coil, and a performance chip.

First off, I seen a P. chip I could get for my cb7 that plugs into (I think...) the air intake plenium, that is supposed to tell the computer the air coming in is cold, and increase fuel flow. The seller said w/ an intake, you run a little lean (which he's right, I already knew this much...), and that the chip is supposed to compensate for that. My question is, will this P. chip help as much as I've heard it will? And, I've been told if I got one, I may run a tad rich and need a bigger coil, which I planned on getting anyways.

Next question, if I get a MSD Blaster Coil, will I have to also get the dis. cap to go with it? And, will I need better wires, or will the stock style ones work?

Thankx for all your help and replys!

First off fuck that chip thing. Don't waste your time and money. Your engine isn't going to run leaner with an Intake and isn't going to run leaner with an upgraded coil.

Your 92LX is already external coil so you will not need a distributor cap. The factory cap will work fine, the stock wires are also ok although I would purchase everything new. Make sure to replace your cap, rotor, plugs, and wires with new OEM ones. Don't use aftermarket parts like from an autoparts, those are all crap.

The only wire I would suggest upgrading would be the wire from the actual coil to the distributor cap. That wire is a little expensive brand new and not compatible with your new upgraded coil so you might aswell buy a newer quality wire like an MSD wire.

Thankx, guys. So, the chip upgrade is a scam? If I do nothing to compensate for the increase in air flow, I will be a bit on the lean side... I figured since I have an intake and headder w/ 2.25" exhaust pipe, my A/F ratio would be lean. I figured I would need to do something to richen up my fuel to compensate... Am I wrong?

And how exactly would a blaster coil help me... other than increase spark? I figured that would be a wast if I'm running lean in the first place... I thought the blaster coil was needed for increased A/F ratios, or increased richness of the fuel...

Can you guys explain to me where I've been missinformed?
Thankx again for all the love!

you can invest on a B&M fuel pressure regulator and gauge to help increase/richen fuel pressure.

Only a wideband can actually tell u if your running lean, which won't even be by much at all with only i/h/e. Most i/h/e setups try to lean out by a .1-.3 a/f at most. And thats if the ecu doesn't already correct it. With that crap ass "performance" chip i'd say you'd richen up close to .5-1.5. And that would yield less than desirable results not only with the gas mileage ur used to but also some power
As for the blaster coil, it helps to burn the a/f mixture more efficiently. It has nothing to do with increased a/f's but more so burning increased air and fuel...not the ratio. Hotter spark is all it gives. The stock ignition system is all thats really needed...even for me. The only reason i got an MSD coil was because it was about a third of the cost as the oem coil, less hassle to mount, cheaper to replace, and sets me up for a good ignition system if i ever decide to get an ignition box.

Like midnight said the upgraded coil gives a more vibraint spark helping to complete burn all of the air fuel mixture and end gasses making more power. Not allot more, but more none the less.

For an a stock vehicle there really isn't a need to upgrade however it won't hurt anything. People running boost and nitrous benefit allot more by those upgrades. Esspecially people that are running turbo cars as the increased cylinder pressure sometimes "blows the spark out" so a more powerful spark is required. Some people however cheat this by making the spark plug gap smaller, this robs you of power as you do not properly burn the mix and end gases but also solves the problem of the spark dieing.

Okay, upgrade what to feel the power?

Thankx to everyone for your advise and input! I think the next thing for me should be a cold air intake, and a set of springs to loose that wheel gap!

Oh yeah, PRIMOCB7: Thankx for the tip, but I knew that one already!
