Speed Sensor for Prelude or Accord

So I'm buying a speed sensor today for my car since my speedometer doesn't always work all the time, but wasn't 100% sure if I should buy the speed sensor for a prelude H22a1 or an accord. My accord has an H22 in it and I'm almost certain to get the sensor for a prelude since the VSS is mounted on the tranny, but just needed to make sure before I go buy it. Thanks in advanced

you can use one off an H23 prelude as well. Thats what I'm using in my H22 5spd. Try using an accord 5spd one too, that might work. I know for a fact the Auto ones don't work on manuals because the bracket is different.

But before you do that, try cleaning out the connector and putting dielectric grease on the contacts, could just be not making a connection well enough. A packet of that stuff is about 1.50 from Autozone.

Cool, thanks for the pointers, I'll be sure to try the dielectric grease on the contacts and if that doesn't work I'll order the Speed sensor. One more thing, when buying a speed sensor, do you buy the sensor with the wiring and connector or just the speed sensor itself?

I'm not sure the difference between engines and cars specifically.

However what I can tell you is DON'T BUY TO CHEAP!! I bought one for $30 off ebay. The thing works even today. However the cheap ass thing is VERY effected by temperature! If it's cold it read somewhere between 10-15 MPH lower then your going. When it's hot it read 3-5 OVER what your actually going!

Luckily for me, the car it's installed in, was totaled not to long ago, and is now a parts car for my new SE. (which has a good sensor BTW).

My point is though, DON'T buy to cheap. You WILL get what you pay for with these things!

Thanks for telling me cause I was thinking about getting one for $40 online to, but I'll just go to autozone and get one. They priced it at $89.99 w/ a 2 year warranty and at the dealership they're around $116.

i would seriously try searching for one at a JY. I know they're old, but its not as if this would be like using an old timing belt where disastrous consequences would result if it failed. All that would happen is the speedometer quits.

And they're fairly easy to replace if it does go bad. Can't be more than 5-10 bucks at the JY. Just trying to save you a few bucks.

You can use any F22 or H22 VSS I know because I have swapped them a few times . Of course as stated above AT is differnt from MT. But yes JY is the best place to go for such things!

Damn I wish I would've read your guys posts before I went to buy it. I ended going to autozone and got in about an hour ago. I think I had a defected VSS ever since I got my H22 swap cause when I went for a little test drive to make sure it was working it was the first time I hit vtec w/o my speedometer jumping around all crazy. Hopefully this fixed my speedo problem though
